Golden with big lacing. Has the typical brewers yeast and sugary smell associated with Belgian and French blonde beers. Taste is of the yeast\sugar, floral hops, an intriguing cocoa powder aftertaste and some surprising bitterness as well. Pretty Good. Price Paid: around 2.

Single 11.2floz bottle that I paid the discounted price of $1 about five months ago. No freshness dating present. Poured into a tulip glass, where it appears strawberry blonde in color and has a retentive one finger head. It looks good, but how does it smell? Well it smells like many imports Ive had - lemon peel and slight caramel. Something in the water? Ingredients? Brew method? The Atlantic Ocean trip? My palate approves the minerally Old World style. Its like liquid Kix sans milk, and a little less sweet and a bit more salty. Moderately carbonated and medium in body, so it can be sipped or suitable to mix in session drinking experience.

Pale cloudy golden, small head. A bit fruit, some banana, yeast. I miss some citric freshness. Slightly bitter, some sweetness. Soft carbonated, medium body. There are better Belgian Blondes than this.

33cl bottle at home (28 IV 2017). This six percent alcohol Belgian ale is a true classic among the blonde abbey beers. The appearance is quite straightforward, with a rather clear, vivid looking orange to amber brew. The collar is somewhat thick and white at first, very frothy and snowlike, but dimishes soon afterwards. Appealing at the first glance, and with a Belgian-alcohol and -grains flavoured aroma as well. The nose has some interesting features to offer. There are some very present citrus notes in there, with spring green vegetables or even aubergines and fresh, crispy cucumber peel. The malts arent omnipresent, but surely have their deliberate spot on the background. The Maredsous yeast strains are - thank God - not as classic and thus dust and dirtlike. This is one of the smoother Belgian abbeys on the market - maybe a that underappreaciated. This ale starts with some lemon features, complementing light sour notes. One can perhaps spot some peachy flavours in the beginning as well. These features stand with the sweet dashes. The malt backbone is firm without really being overpowered or overwhelming. The alcohol body actually is pretty weak - it is only present in the long, warm aftertaste. This good quenching, smooth drinking ale has quite a silk-like, smooth tongue. It almost represents a creamy, vanilla or wood character: But let me be clear, these tones are very subtle and maybe farfetched too. Because the palate in itself is not that colourful: Of course, this Maredsous blonde 6% ABV stands far from the complexity of the tripel version. Hence, the mouthfeel lacks some building stones to truly offer a variety of flavours. But it is an easy to drink, quite straightforward and smooth ale without true overwhelming punches and thus pretty classic.
