Bottled. Murky brown ale w/ nose of yeast, sugar & alcohol. Taste is astringent, bitter & slightly off-putting. Linger grows on you, but this is only slightly above average.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with lasting form top. Aroma bready cereal malts with some vegetable herbal notes. Taste is medium bitter to sour with light raisin sweet background elements. Palate edges towards full bodied average to lively carbonation thick texture and a languorous sour to bitter finish. A Trappist to stay quiet about.

330ml bottle pours deep red-brown with foamy off-white head. Aromas of dark cherry, caramel malt, nuttiness, but a little soapy. Tastes of dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar, roasted malt, bready yeast, brandy and herbal characters. Quite a bit of sugar up front. Dry finish with a little cherry sourness. Great flavour profile, but leaves me looking for a little more depth.

phfyysik (1396) - Tartu, ESTONIA - OCT 5, 2017
Pours caramel brown with medium beige head. Aroma is caramel, metal, dried fruits, copper, some light toffee. Taste is caramel, roast, dried fruits, some crisp cookies, biscuit, copper, bitter notes, potato chips, roasted bread. Nice beer!

Aroma welcoming fruity caramel malts, somewhat spicy, alcoholic though. Taste mostly candi sugar, rather sweet even, less dark fruits, alcohol present again. MF creamy at first but slight alcohol burn taking over. Not bad but looks and tastes a little thin to warrant the alcoholic kick.

Normal Belgian monastic characteristics. Long lingering mild sour aftertaste. Good but not my favorite Belgium. Nicely balanced bitterness. I let my last sip warm up to almost room temperature and much preferred it warm ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A bottle from the basement of 101. Aroma: oxtail soup, malt. Appearance: hazy dark brown, pours a tan head, dissipates to bubbly lacing. Palate: medium-bodied and slick, average carbonation. Very bitter, rather peppery finish. Taste: heavily bitter, more peppery than I would expect, the bitterness lends an unfortunate metallic note. Good beer, but give me the tripel any day.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2017 Sample at de koninck, antwerp. Red browm color, clear, Big offwhite head, persistent. Aroma is cherry, roasted malts, candy sugar, red apple with a sour aftertaste.

Pours deep burgundy colour, with abundant tan head. Aroma of brown sugar and raisins. Fairly sweet flavour, with the fruitiness coming through as well as some caramel. Finish has a touch of dryness. Alcohol warmth is present but reasonably mellow. Slightly sticky texture to the mouthfeel, along with some fairly active carbonation. All round a delicious beer. Great winter brew.

Malty, sweet aroma of dark fruits like raisins and figs, caramel and toasted bread. Taste is nice also, sweet as you would expect. Nice!
