3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle) medium dark maroon with oamy big head. good appearance. sous initial sting wth intesting malty ending. Although it feels like the beer is missng something in the middle region after the initial sting. Definitly aroma and flavour of umami, marmite o bovril and savoury mince.
Pours clear dark ruby with big beige head - looks very enticing. Aroma is not very distinct, caramel with hint of wet leaves. Medium bodied and rather surprisingly fizzy. Starts slightly sour and then the rich caramel malt flavours develop. Just as the flavours seem to be subsiding a rich and bitter kick develops at the end. I was expecting more from this beer, so it left me disappointed mainly about a rather muddy and odd set of flavours
Pours with no head really. Color is light cola. Aroma is recognizable as an abbey beer having characteristics of sweet, fermented malt and "old", cellary feeling. Additionally, marzipan, faint herbal liquor, fresh toasted toast, black tea. Palate is decent, a bit too watery. Taste is a bit surprisingly also a bit watery. It's like watered down strong ale. There are no odd sidetastes, but the experience still feels a bit incomplete, since the taste is so watery. It can be considered refreshing, but it's not nearly as rich as I prefer. Slight disappointment. kapusil (1561) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JAN 9, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 9, 2018 0.33l bottle. Hazy orangish brown body with a huge and lasting beige head. Looks great. Both in the nose and mouth, it shows an expected caramelly, dark sugary character with notes of cloves, raisins and cocoa, but there is also a bit of sour grape must to it too that I didn't see coming. The finish has a hint of spicy hops. Nice beer. If it was a bit more robust in body and taste, it could be even better. samjdix (74) - - DEC 29, 2017
A tricky one this. Looks glorious when poured so I expected more from the taste and aroma, which were surprisingly bitter/sour without much depth (very refreshing though) and slightly musty. Well drinkable but by no means exceptional. Luiz Felipe Figueiredo (5) - - DEC 28, 2017 does not count
