June 9th, 2012 - When I first arrived in San Diego, Marin Brewery’s beers were here and there, but more or less a rare bird. Spotting them was an exercise in chance. Nowadays (reviewing the beer in June, 2012 and writing the review in February 2014) Marin is much more common, and the market has shuffled over and made room on the couch. I have had some Marin beers that made me see why, but their IPA is not one of them. It’s an adequate IPA, with a uniform IPA taste. The bitterness is underdeveloped, perhaps intentionally, and by San Diegan standards it comes across as the lovechild of a weak kneed IPA and an Amber, with a boozy stickiness and none of the hoppy burn. The hops flavor is there, sure, but without the forward flavor that hop addicts get riled up about. From the hazy dark orange color comes a lovely aroma of cinnamon and peanuts roasted in honey, but again, the hops is somewhat quiet. This is perfectly drinkable, and worth a try, but is a little dull in a roaring, frenzied market filled with exciting India Pale Ales. ikigai (75) - California, USA - JAN 30, 2014
Decent but not great. No piney hops. More flowery and Carmel malt flavors and a bit bitter.

On tap at the brewpub. Lightly hazy, dark orange-golden in color and with a small, off-white head. Pine cones, peaches, citrus peel, orange and some malty sweetness in the aroma. Some sweetness in the flavor, but with sufficient bitterness. Peaches, citrus peel and some orange too. Resins. Full body, soft and pleasantly carbonated. Long and nice finish. A lovely ipa indeed. 130806 skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Pours a muted orange with a one finger off white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus, pine, tropical fruits, and sweet malts. Taste is similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a slightly cream mouthfeel and a semi dry, moderately bitter, medium long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty IPA. Bule (2164) - California, USA - AUG 2, 2013
