sweet, delicate, rich, beautiful. Dark fruit, some spices, sorta a little chocolate, but probably really something else. I really enjoy it. Light, but strong, well made. slowrunner77 (13368) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 21, 2014
"i really like most Marin beers, and even a bad barleywine is a pretty good beer overall, but that’s just what this one is. thin and relatively flavorless in comparison to better Bw’s. There’s quite a few I can think of superior to this one." Iphonephan (7510) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - APR 19, 2014
On draft at Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena. Pours a cloudy deep amber brown with an ecru head. Aroma of figs. Flavors of raisins and caramel. Smooth, boozy finish. phaleslu (10957) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 31, 2014
22 oz. bottle from Total Wines in Phoenix. Pours a somewhat cloudy reddish amber with a medium beige head. Notes of caramel malts, dark and dried fruits (dates, figs, raisins), brown sugar, pine resin- hits all the right notes. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sticky, chewy mouthfeel. Big, tasty American barley wine. Really good. I need to get my hands on the other versions. travita (5008) - Dallas, Texas, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The look is brown to red in color, clear, and a beige colored head. The smell is bourbon, sweet, caramel, and wood. The taste is sweet, caramel, wood, and bourbon.

5/11/2011: Marlin Old Dipsea Barleywine Style Ale... Aroma: Milk chocolate and red wine; infected? Appearance: Deep brown color; opaque; beige crown. Flavor: Caramel maltiness that is a bit overshadowed by red wine nuances and some bourbony alcohol; some sort of berry is definitely evident in the middle of this beer; no real bitterness; chocolate undertones and dark fruit throughout; bourbon lingers in the background but becomes more evident as the beer warms. Palate: Medium-full; creamy and smooth with a bit of weight. Overall: Seems a bit off; maybe better described as a [wine] barrel-aged Old Ale or Brown Ale...
1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (Bourbon Barrel Aged for Ten Months; Alcohol 9% by Volume) shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #214 for this beer.
22oz bomber of unknown vintage. Pours a dark opaque brown with very little head. Aroma is very sweet, with pitted fruit most prominent. Taste is also sweet and malty. Very little hop flavor. 50belair (3718) - Florida, USA - APR 23, 2013
Bottle shared by dark guardian. Clear brown pour with an off white head. Sweet caramel malt aromas. Sweet and smooth with all kinds of caramel malt and dark fruit notes. Good mouthfeel and body. Well done... Thisis12ptfont (1240) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - JAN 25, 2013
Aroma of wet hops, herbs and brown sugar. Deep brown color with a magenta tint. Flavors of brown sugar, ground cinnamon and some lightly fruity hops. Overall, this is a fairly basic barley wine with some brown sugar and rich toffee/caramel sweetness. There is a slight alcohol sting on the finish. Not bad. I’d give this a B+ rating.
