I loved this barleywine. Itís sweet, but I like a real sweet brew from time to time. Itís a nice dark brown, with a full body and thick mouthfeel. The aroma leaves something to be desired; thatís where the alcohol makes itself known. The first taste Is caramel, fig, toasted nut, and a dull orange flavor (not tangy.) As I progress through the beer, thereís more coffee there. I didnít find the finish very dry at all. Itís a pretty sticky brew the whole way through. Itís highly drinkable/enjoyable, and despite the fairly high ABV, I never felt like I was getting my ass kicked. Fantastic.
Some caramelized malt and some peel. Pours amber with good head and lacing. Some oaky vibe. Bottle shared at tasting. Errl (2442) - Plano, Texas, USA - DEC 23, 2015

Pours dark amber red with minimal head. Head retention is poor. AROMA: dark fruit, sweet roasted malt, light citrus, spices, dark chocolate, smoke, raisin, vanilla, alcohol, red wine and hop bitterness. TASTE: coffee,/espresso caramel, alcohol, raisin, smoke, spices, hop bitterness, plum, pinot noir, peppercorn and dark chocolate. AFTER TASTE: chocolate, peppercorn, hop oils, caramel and smoke flavors with a slightly thick oily feel in the mouth. I?m very surprised at the quality of this brew for the price. Definitely will purchase a few more. Might age a few of them as well. alexsdad06 (10284) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 3, 2015
22 oz. bottle via trade shared with the group from notes 2011. Pours a hazy reddish amber color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel malts, dark fruits, raisin, fig, resin, I can see the vinous character from the description, medium plus body, some viscosity. Solid, tasty barley wine. I would have this again. DSG (14685) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - MAR 16, 2015
[2/15/15] Draught at Toronado in San Francisco. 2009 edition. Nice clear amber color. Aroma of malt, caramel, cookies and some old hops. Sweet caramelly flavor with cookies, stale hops, a bit of alcohol and a bitter finish. Rounded mouthfeel. Steasy66 (1155) - Minnesota, USA - JAN 16, 2015
2011 bottle. Muddy brown color. Aroma is tart red fruit. Thick sweet and smooth barleywine with a hint of tart red fruit in the finish. beerbaaron (1998) - Arizona, USA - JAN 5, 2015
Deep unclear slight ruby brownish color with an excellent khaki head. Aroma finds light fruity, bread crust..quite nice. No hint of alcohol. Lighter full body. Amazing palate. Slaughters most barley wines. Worthy of much more attention.
