Bottle. Pours with a dark brown color and a small brownish head. Aromas of malts mainly and some alcohol. Flavors of licorice, raisins and strong malts with some hotness from the alcohol. Medium mouthfeel with a hoppy bitter finish. An ok barleywine but not great. BrotherGrendel (787) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 24, 2010
Cask at Linkery. Pours a dark brown hue with a thick tan layer of foam and a spattering of lacing. Nose is a mix of fruity esters and syrupy sweet malts. Flavor is thick rich malts up front followed by dark fruit esters, the body is very cake-like with bready malts, hints of grassy-earthy hops, finishes slightly sweet. Medium-full body, light carbonation, thick texture. A malty sweet barleywine, middle of the road for the style. rayOfBeer (674) - El Cerrito, California, USA - JUL 13, 2008
Poured from tap at Marin Brew Breast Fest an inky reddish-brown with the smallest of off-white heads. The aroma hit me with lots of subdued fruit sort of a plum wine with vinegar and soy sauce. The flavor was soy saucy with red jammy wine, plums, figs, dark chocolate. Mild bitter finish ending quickly. Easy to sip, I enjoyed this one. I’d get it again. An interesting, distinctive barleywine. Mahogany color with a thin head. Notes of toffee and caramel malt with a bit of fruitiness. Sweet malt flavors with pronounced bitterness and an odd rusty character--not sure what I think about that. Interesting. Well-balanced mouthfeel with good alcohol integration. flemdawg (561) - Rowlett, Texas, USA - MAY 29, 2004
Reddish brown in color with an off white head that had some good lacing to it. Rasins and malts mainly in the aroma but with some subtle fruit notes as well. Alcohol was present but there were also the raisins from the nose. Also got some sweetness in there as well. Pretty good over all.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2004 Bottle probably year old. As soon as we opened the bottle you can smell a very intriguing pinapple aroma. Very dark mahogianish appearance. Thick creamy head tha eventually subsides to a mess. Excellent balance of juicy sweet and fruity aromas(chocolate, pinapples, toffee.) The taste is Very well balanced with the sweet and crisp hop bitterness. As it warms it tastes like the best warm cough medicine because of the alcohol content. Loses flavor the longer it takes you to drink it but still very drinkable. doublebock (558) - California, USA - AUG 23, 2010
Dark brown color with thick head. Robust floral bouquet mixed with with strong and sweet malty aroma. Taste of raisins, port, fresh bread with plenty of hops at the end to balance out the strong alcohol. brianjames1 (539) - Northridge, California, USA - JUN 27, 2010
22oz bottle poured into snifter. Color is dark brown with minimal head. Aroma is of sweet malts and some hops come through at the end. Mouth feel is smooth with light carbonation. Flavor is sweet malts with a slightly hot finish. Decent bwine. DarkMagus (531) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 19, 2008
On tap at Toronado’s 2008 Barleywine Festival. This was surprisingly dark brownish-red with a thick golden-tinted head. Aromas were very sweet and malty with of course an assault of spicy, fruity hops. Malt dominated the flavors initially, with loads of sweet caramel, brown sugar, ripe apples... finishing up with the bitter citrus/grapefruit rind quality of the hops. Sugary soft and syrupy mouthfeel but finished very astringent. 0o9i (439) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 19, 2009
Bomber. Reddish amber body, clear, creamy offwhite ring of steadfast head, no lace. Malty aroma with dark fruits, roasted malts and alcohol notes. Full and thick, somewhat sticky, little carbonation, yet dries surprisingly well on finish. Roasted malt throughout with dark fruits and a surprising noble-hop profile that you might expect in a robust pilsner. Light woody character on finish. Lots of mild hops.
