Expectations: An M&S Standard Hereford Cider made with Dabinett Apples - with an Oak Woodiness
Were expectations met: Yes
Findings: It tastes of 'Autumn'. Its a nice quality cider. Just enough bitter and just enough sweet and the right amount of fizz on the tip of your tongue !
Would I drink it again: Yes mR_fr0g (14025) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2017
A bottle at home picked up from Watford M&S. A crystal clear petrol / green/ yellow coloured pour with a little effervescence. Aroma is nice sweet apple, plastic, pear, medium sweet sugars. Flavour is composed of medium sweet, apple juice, mellow tangy finish, pears, hint of wood in the finish. Palate is medium sweet, highish carbonation, little sugary. Overall pretty mellow and drinkable. ManVsBeer (11168) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 15, 2016
Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Manchester. From the 2013 crop. Golden-yellow coloured cider. Has a very mild dryness to it, with a light apple flavouring. It’s a tad tarty, with vinegar evident in its nose and aftertaste, although a little less stated in the latter. 500 ml bottle “2014 Vintage” bought at M&S in Langham Place, Mong Kok.
Light golden yellow colour; Near zero head and thin residual soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; No lacing with active and slow carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of apple wine, with strong mustiness, strong wood barrel, strong yoghurt tartness, oxidized apple flesh, sugar and strong tannic; Light sweet taste of apple wine, with notable alcohol, fair mustiness, yoghurt tartness, apple pulp, strong barrel, carbo and tannic; Light body. Watery palate; Mouth feel is runny but full of winey apple goodness. Booze come first but not as strong as typical scrumpy, followed by some mustiness, stong oak barrel, carbo and yoghurt tartness. Sweetness is light with some good tannin in the end. Nice!... Slightly dry after taste. Woody and winey to mouth.
Coments: This one doesn’t have much in looks, but it packs a punch of strong aroma and flavours in oak barrels, apple core, yoghurt and tannin. With further aging this may even be better. Recommended!
500ml bottle from M&S Darlington. 2014 vintage. Clear golden colour, short-lived white foam head and aroma of straw, oil, funk, mellow apple. Taste is bittersweet, fruity apple, barnyard, woody, tart with some dry tannin. Medium bodied, low carbonation, drying tannic finish. Quite OK. berkshirejohn (6767) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 25, 2015
50cl bottle from M&S, Wokingham. Vintage 2013 A straw colour with no head and little carbonation; muted apple aroma; medium body with a fresh apple taste; and a medium dry finish. Rather average. The_Osprey (9696) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2015
Bottle share, thanks to Leighton. 2013 vintage. Clear yellow, still, small bubbly white head. Aroma is apples, elderflower, glucose syrup, tinned fruit syrups. Body is medium, smooth, low-ish carbonation. Taste is apples, some elderflower with a crisp, slightly acidic finish. Decent enough cider. Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours clear gold with a small, bubbly white head. The nose is earthy, light funk, touch of cider vinegar, must and some dirty barnyard. The taste is sweet, candied apple, icing sugar, sweet pear and a touch of alcohol with a short, sweet finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Aroma is good, but taste is a bit sweet and thin. Bottle at home in London - picked up from the M&S in the Whiteley’s on Queensway. Pours crystal clear gold with a fizzy white head that fades out real quick. The nose has lightly ripened apples, some apple peel, very slight must. Mediums sweet flavor with sugary apples, some honey, nips of dry and bitter skin. Medium bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Somewhat crisp on the finish, moderately acidic, with more ripening apples, subtly musty peel, a bit of honey. A nicely refreshing, very drinkable sparkling cider.
