GoufCustom (1980) - HONG KONG - APR 24, 2017

500ml bottle bought at M&S in Langham Place, Mong Kok.

Clear pale golden yellow colour; Two and a half finger head with soapy white foam which lasts for 90 seconds. Good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Pungent and sweet smell of malt, with corn, strong floral, cloying sugar, bread, lemon and strawy grass; Mid to light sweet taste of fair lager malt, with floral, light sugar, light bread, lemon, quite strong bitter hops and grass; Close to light body. Thin but fairly slick palate; Mouth feel is fair Lager maltyness in a slightly watery background. Faint corn, strong floral, fair sweetness, light breadyness with strong lemon to round. Pretty good!... Hoppiness is strong floral, lemon and strawy grass in nose and taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, mid to high astringent sweet-bitter malty finish; Slightly dry after taste. Lemony grassy and bitter to mouth.

Comments: Thought this one was just another crappy Macro Pale, well its nose is sweet, but the taste had a strong malt backbone with minimal adjuncts, good lemony bitter hops and not too sweet. Surprisingly decent!

Bottle from Marks and Spencer; clear golden yellow pour with a bubbly white head, aroma has sweet malts and a tiny hint of citrus, taste has some bread action, some grass, pretty basic but crisp and refreshing.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2016 Purchased from M&S store in Hong Kong. With a delightful and clear golden colour. The white head is very thin. The taste is refreshing but does not last long. As the taste is weak one may take this as if drinking spring water.

The_Osprey (7890) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2016
500ml bottle at home in Richmond, as ’Marks & Spencer Italian Lager Pure Mountain Water Italian Alps’, 5%, BB April 2017. Golden yellow, clear, sparkling, foamy dense white head, thick lacing. Aroma is damp cardboard, grains with a definite dog biscuit note unfortunately. Body is very light, spritzy carbonation, foamy. Taste is light, buttery malt, musty, sodawater with soft malt sugars. There’s potential for this to be a good lager - it has a clean malty flavour but it’s overcarbonated with a slightly dodgy nose. Overall, it’s OK. Decent enough value for money I suppose.
