Cold fermented at the Meantime Brewery for Marks & Spencer.
This London Porter is brewed in Greenwich, using no fewer than seven malts to recreate a historic recipe from the 1750s for a style of beer that was once synonymous with London.

Rich mahogany in colour with a good off-white head that lasts well and leaves an attractive lace on the glass. Lovely roasted malt nose with loads of coffee and chocolate notes and some smokiness lurking there as well. Good body with that roast malt again, some bitterness comes to the fore on the finish. A lovely beer! From M&S obviously, a present from my wife, who’d just been to London!

A good beer made by a great brewery. Apparently a smoked porter but tastes more like a smoked red ale. Uncomplicated and easy to drink.

Served chilled and I did enjoy it. A good dark colour in the tankard and a nice minimal head, but with lacing. Lots of toasted malts and a very nice level of bitterness. It was also surprisingly thirst quenching for such a dark beer. This is the second Meantime porter and I am becoming a fan of their rather deft touch with this beer style. I have another 3 bottles in the cupboard (a lovely gift from a friend) and I am looking forward to drinking them.

500ml bottle (bb 31 Aug 2017) at home on 21 May 2017, from M & S Simply Food, Central Station, Glasgow, chocolate, vanilla, roast malt aroma, deep chestnut brown with a good lasting cream head, chocolate, roast malt flavour, medium dry malty aftertaste.

Dark mahogany, clear, see-through, with a small light tan cap. Nutty notes in the smell, caramel, some cheap chocolate, toffee, faint plum, a dusting of cinnamon powder. Some caramel, cocoa powder and hints of coffee tin atop some dry, wholegrain biscuits, finishing with some earthy-spicy British hops. Somewhat dusty. Vague hints of raisin. Aftertaste has some lingering British hop, mildly bitter, and some deeply toasted malts. Kinda light bodied, with a hearty carbonation. Not exactly a traditional porter in my book, but a nice drink.

Bottle. Unpoured. Scent is light caramel porter. Taste is lovely caramel notes on porter, quite sugary but backed with at least 40 IBU of complementing bitterness. Finish is dry and a tiny bit soapy. Very good.

500ml bottle. Dark red colour with a thin off white head which laces well. Aroma of caramel and feint smoked cheese. The taste is caramel, cough syrup, some coffee and a light smokiness. A good one.

Pours clear, dark reddish-brown. Small tan head. Sweet grainy aroma. Medium slightly oily body. Malty. Not bad.

sarauckelman (550) - Durham, Durham, ENGLAND - FEB 1, 2017
Clear dark red-brown with a scummy film. Malty and smoky aroma, with a nice rich flavor, with hints of vanilla and peanut brittle. Smooth bodied and quite nice.

Bottle. Ruby. Small white head with beautiful lacing. Mild aroma of british hops with a touch of red berries and sourness. Taste is malts, chocolate, subdued hops and some fruitiness. Low carbonation. Mouthfeel is a little thin and watery. It’s alright but I expect something else from a Porter.

Piw (1250) - Rüsselsheim, GERMANY - DEC 22, 2016
500ml Flasche. Klar und dunkelbraun mit großer Schaumkrone. Karamellnoten. Leicht malzig. Süßlich und trocken.
