Black color with brown rim; medium sized compact head. The aroma is very hoppy, pungent, resiny, piney; really wonderful. Lean body; it starts with a mix of roasted malt and dark chocolate, then resiny hops bitterness, finally. Long roasty final.
Very good, unbalanced nevertheless.
A good finger of tan head. Dark brown body.
Smell is distinctly a spruce tree. There’s a tree in my glass.
Whoa, taste is a big serving of spruce and lemon bitterness. There’s the smallest bit of roasted malt in the background.
Medium body, low to moderate carbonation.
A good drink, but be ready for the assault of bitter flavor. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - NOV 16, 2012
22oz bottle from the Flying Saucer in Little Rock, AR. Pours a cloudy, deep brown, almost black colored body with a finger-width, creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is big piney grapefruits with a bit of a floral and slight earthy undertone. Medium roasts and a nice chocolate backing. Flavor is similar. Bigger citrus grapefruits with a nice pine and light floral note up front before a solid chocolate sweetness comes in while still allowing the hops to shine. Roasts come out more towards the end as this finishes dry and bitter with plenty of grapefruit pines and a light sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a softer, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really nice Black IPA. Lots of bold grapefruit pines with a solid chocolate sweetness and balancing roast. Highly enjoyable beer. Dedollewaitor (16382) - Odense, DENMARK - NOV 2, 2012
Bottle @ Bandlys Blålys, Odense 2012. Pours nearly black with a small creamy head. Roast, pine and grapefruit. Dry and bitter. Crisp. Smooth and dry. dimenhetfield (2554) - , Florida, USA - SEP 15, 2012
Bottle poured into glass. Dark brown color, creamy and light. Aroma is mostly hoppy with earthy tones with slight hints of cocoa. Flavor is geared towards..... I’d say 50/50 hops and malts. Not too shabby.

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) clear deep brown, ring of soapy offwhite bubbles. Nose of chocolate malt, rich, light citrus, agave, smells good. Taste of fudge, raisin, light citrus, chocolate malt, pretty nice beer overall. Easy to drink. Strykzone (7629) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Sampled at an esbls tasting. Black with an oatmeal appearing head. This is not a favored style. This one is not bad. Licorice is not bad here. Hops come out.
