Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Clear, golden colour with some white lacing. Light, hoppy aroma with some pine and coriander. Light taste, some bitterness, kinda soapy towards the end. Light body, medium carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Itís nice but a bit light for my taste.

JPDIPSO (5990) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 30, 2017
Light golden color with a smallish, somewhat fizzy light tan head. Aromas of caramel, floor malt, butterscotch, light herbs, with some minerals in the background. Pale to lightly caramelized malt in the front. Middle still has the malt going on, but the hops are working their way in. Herbal to minty hop. Quite bitter in the finish and linger with a touch of pepper. Traditional and refreshing. The empire would be pleased. 12/12

Bottle from a local shop, Tallinn. BB 23.07.2017. Clear pale golden with frothy creamy white head that drops rather fast. Aroma and flavour: soft yeasty fruity, toffeeish, earthy. Hops rather subdued. Slightly too watery on the palate; overall not too enjoyable, even with thirst.

Bottle. Gold in colour. Hoppy; strong hoppy aroma & flavour; grassy hops. Malty; toasty malts, caramel & vanilla. Tangy rich malty with moderately bitter hoppy taste. Drinkable. (2015-06-06)

Perfectly palatable if not excellent. Pours a lovely copper, nice flowery hops on the nose. Downhill from there. Strangely flat carbonation, may have been the temperature of a dud bottle. Taste is average, sweeter and less bitter than Iíd expect from an IPA.

Quite simple aroma of malt and hops with some grassy and earthy notes. Pours clear golden colour with medium white head. Medium body, taste almost duplicates the aroma. Feels properly old style, nice drinkable mainstream. But why IPA?

Flaske via DjOeye. Aroma eple, sitrus, malt. Utseende klar orange til gylden med hvitt skum. Smak Malt, humle, eple, bittersÝt, fruktig i ettersmaken. En mild og fruktig ipa, ikke veldig bitter.

Recommended to me by Mole. Dissapointing on the nose, nothing really there ex pet damp. The por is OK, slightly foamy head. Thatís about it. Tastes are all dull, something sweet which could be a spoonfulll of sugar. Dry finish. No life, no zest, no thanks.
