Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Dacrza (1071) - Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA - JUL 7, 2013
Date tasted: July 7, 2013... Glassware: Wychwood Hopbgoblin tumbler... Occasion: celebrating a lazy Sunday’s end....Appearance: nice pale copper body that is clear and softly bubbling; cloudy white head that laces and quickly dissipates... Aroma: bready malts assert dominance--such an English treat--with some buttery notes... Palate: medium-bodied, smooth and buttery; some heat on the exhale,, despite the modest ABV.. Taste: extremely soft hints of toffee and hops; powerful display of malt high on the tongue; formidable... Overall: a curiosity purchase, using a gift card for a slew of brews including this one; I know Marston is renown for its bitter, and thought the IPA would carry the flag; malty , yes, and a quality sipper with a slightly smoked, buttery, definitively scotch finish....still, tough to place among the more formidable IPAs from either side of the pond....

kwik-lime (2116) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2017
Bottle for a Christmas present. Amber colour with a head that doesn't last too well. Nice bitter hops with a little cara el and citrus in the finish. Nice beer, probably a bit better than I was expecting.

bertiebucket (26) - morecambe, Lancashire, ENGLAND - DEC 19, 2017
Served in a straight pint glass, this hoppy English bitter, has full bodied hoppy flavour, with a sweet under tone. Not as many of the new wave of IPA's, but still an enjoyable beer.

p0urmeac0ld0ne (413) - Merthyr Tydfil, WALES - DEC 8, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2017 Lovely strong, traditional IPA. Very spicy and prominent hop. Reviewing from memory, so no extensive tasting notes.

CanCrusher (1178) - Ilirska Bistrica, SLOVENIA - NOV 27, 2017
Bottle 0,50L. Clear, golden color, low visible carbonation, small, frothy, white head. Malty aroma with some grassy hops. Light to medium bitter taste with malty backbone. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Just common, mass produced English IPA, nothing outstanding...

A: Clear gold with a big white head N: Malty with a hint of bitterness T: Sweet malt upfront, with leafy green bitterness showing through on the back end P: Full O: At first it tastes like a blonde ale, but then the bitterness hits you to remind you that this is an IPA.

LLaurin (550) - Motala, SWEDEN - NOV 3, 2017
Small nose but good looking beer. Malty taste with some hoppy bitterness but still nothing outrageous. Palate short as expected. Not bad beer but I doubt it would have made it all the way to India.

Firstofthefallen (20) - Middleton Tyas, North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - OCT 22, 2017
Short lived foam and a slight herby scent. Slightly sweet with a long metallic bitter finish. Not particularly fruity, malty or hoppy. Quite a robust biscuity caramel flavour with some depth. Very drinkable though!

2.2
BojanM (44) - Banja Luka, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - OCT 22, 2017
Svijetlo bakarna boja, bijela pjena, veoma brzo nestane. Arome i nisu toliko izražene, osjeti se kvasac, pomalo vanilije, samo malo alkohol i dim. Srednje gorčine i karbonizacije. Poprilično tanko, ne baš zanimljiva ipa.

visionthing (5600) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - OCT 15, 2017
50cl bottle from CityAlko, Arsenal Keskus. Pours clear amber with a decent, but short-lived off-white head. Mild fruity and grainy aroma with notes of honey and hints of citrus and caramel, Moderate to medium sweet with mild, but balanced flavours and a fine bitterness. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable.
