Sweet aroma is roasted malt with syrup, sugar, dark fruits and plums. Some coffee too. Low bitterness. Palate is quite smooth and warming. wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2008
Flat looking medium brown hue with a thin island of creamy, tan foam. Chocolate and toffee arrive first in the aroma, which is somewhat mild overall. Honey on buttered, toasted bread follows with cherries and prunes. Peppery, floral hops and light minerals combine in semi-sharp note, well out-done by the sweet side of things. Slight tint of cola / liquorice. The flavour starts fairly sweet, a little cocoa and caramel; washes through dark fruits at mid-palate; and culminates in a woody, floral, off-dry finish. Slim aftertaste of dried cherries. Not quite full bodied, with an oily texture and soft, yet bristly, carbonation. With warmth, the dark fruits come to life and a bit of alcohol leaves the mouth with a dry, red wine sensation. An enjoyable and interesting sipper with no big minuses except for price. Beatiful dark ruby beer, lots of malt, fruitiness, quite sweet, and I would have preferred more bitterness to balance this. But it’s not bad at all. TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 20, 2007
Bottle from supermarket in NZ, poured a dark brown with a reddish hue and a beige bubble head. A rich toffee aroma with a cherry fruit sweetness. A full mouthfeel with a syrupy stewed fruit flavour - cherry and apricots. Becomes more malty and dry through to the finish. Nicely done. jbrus (4988) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - DEC 1, 2007

Sweet, prune and apple aroma with hints of cherry. Ruby color, light brown head, few lace. Rather sweet, even a bit sugary, prune, raisin, hints of chocolate and licorice, bitter finish. Sticky and alcoholic. Nice and flavorful.
Bottle from my new local indy. Pours a dark brown with an off white head. Strong sweetness on the nose then leads onto a kind of fruitcake sweetness in the mouth with hints of dark fruits and some caramel. Very nice indeed and hides the 7.6% well. UPDATED: MAR 4, 2008 Page 307 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide. Had a bottle of this it is rooty , light, and has a bitter sweet finish. Only 167 of MJ’s "Classic 500 Brews" to go. mabjork (693) - Vasa, FINLAND - SEP 3, 2007
Bottled. Dark brownn in colour, minor brown head. The aroma is raisin like with malt. The flavour has plums and malt in it, quite fruity and sweet. There is a sweet aftertaste as well. Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - SEP 2, 2007
Dark mahogany-red with a nice head. The aroma has notes of raisins and dark, ripe fruits. The flavour has notes of caramel, dark fruit, raisins and plum, port wine and the body is quite full. The alcohol is well hidden. In the finish I find caramel and weak hints of licorice. Geiserich (4660) - Linz, AUSTRIA - JUL 9, 2007
Bottled: Dark brown color, foamy brownish head. Fruity, sweet flavor, plums and malt. Full bodied, sour sweet flavor. Fruity notes of sourly plums, light notes of cough syrup. Bitter sweet finish. Long dry end. Light alcoholic. Nice complex beer.
