Deep ruby red-black clear under a small short lasting pale head. Yeasty spicy roast malt with faint touch of wood and caramel aroma. Medium smooth luscious body. Sweet black coffee cola and roasted malt flavours. Not very hoppy. Soft almost weak finish and cola sweet fading to light bitter roasted malt aftertaste. Brown, lasting tan head. Good malt nose. Interesting malt palate with light yeast aftertaste Spiesy (2338) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - AUG 2, 2004
Bottled. Deep mahogany colour. Rasins and ethanol. Sweet fruit cake aroma. It’s hard to get excited about Marston’s but I’ve no complaints with this. DeepBlack (386) - Derby, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - NOV 2, 2004
Bought in a bottle from Budgens Supermarket near Kings Lynn.
A very dark brown colour, the 7.6% comes through in a very strong taste of alcohol & not to much else. Not bad but not the most drinkable beer of that strength. Dalle (1145) - Skørping, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2005
Bottle. Red-brown with a beige collapsing head. Chewy sweet maltiness, dark fruits, raisins, finish keeps some balance. Low carbonation making it slightly watery.

500ml bottle from Cask & Glass, Tonbridge, the best offy in East Kent. BBE Dec 07. Rich ruby colour with thin beige head. Not sure what I expected from this. Syrupy malt with some peppery hop aroma. Rich fruit. However in the mouth you can still tell that it is pasteurised due to that awful candy sugar, boiled sweet flavour. Raisiny malt finish is good, nice fruit and a decent hop presence. Fine beer for the winter, the alcohol doesn’t make it harsh, so it does show some adeptness. Like GarethYoung I thought that it was a bit empty in the palate. Bottle, Dodgy Deli, Cowly Rd. Dark ruby with a small cap of dense light tan. Suede leather, minty sweetness, green hay. Burnt caramel, touch of chocolate and mint, musky attic notes. Rather sweet, but the roast and fairly bright carbonation provide balance. Pretty decent, though a by the half-pint mark its a bit tiring.
