Sweet caramel aroma. Ruby coloured with short lived tan head and a bit too much carbonation. Very thick. Sweetish malt & yeast flavour. Minor roasted bitterness. Slightly more flavour than Moretti La Rossa but twice as expensive. RichardGretton (4785) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAY 19, 2003
Dark brown beer almost black with a stout style head. Very oatmeal aroma and a malty oatmeal flavour. A very complex beer, and a very good beer. A great example of an English ale. taunusmies (385) - FINLAND - AUG 13, 2008
Pours dark ruby colour with a small head. Aroma is sweet, rich and malty, slightly roasted. Notes of flowers, hops, raisins, dark fruits, toffee and plums. Well balanced ale. Alcohol is incredibly well hidden in the taste, but reveals itself creating a nice warm feeling and going straight to the head. I really liked this one. PlinyHarris (28) - - DEC 14, 2012
Traditional deliciousness from the midlands brewery you can’t avoid down there. A high-ABV brew that still demands bit gulps, where you get plums, raisins, muck and general sweetness. Nice to see one of the big chains keeping summat so unique and worthy of being an end-of-week treat rather than a passable session ale. The only beer to date I have taken into a bath with me. zacgillbanks (5506) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - APR 5, 2015
Bottle from b&m, Team Valley, Gateshead. A very dark brown beer with ruby red highlights. It has a rich red fruit, malt and currant flavour followed by oak, vanilla and spiced berries on the sweet finish. Very nice.

Bottle. Dark brown, some ruby red hues; almost purplish. Beige head fizzles away quickly. Nose is barley, booze, and berries; port as it warms. Taste is berries, alcohol, fresh water, port, and cough syrup. The hop finish is very light and overshadowed by a sweet syrup taste. Medium mouthfeel. Could benefit from a little more body.

Bottle. Lovely dark reddish brown colour, no head. Aroma of dark fruits. The taste is sweet malts, treacle and dark fruits. A slight alcohol warmth is minor and very little bitterness. Medium bodied. This is a sweet beer but I would not say sickly. Quite good. mike_77 (7089) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - APR 11, 2013
Dark ruby brown colour. Aroma has some dried fruit and a touch of liquorice. Flavour has strong dark malts and sweet dried fruits. Quite rich and syrupy with light carbonation. redders1974 (1625) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2015

Dark ruby red ,wonderful colour, it has relatively high fizz for its strength, but quickly gives way to a warming deep steeped fruitiness with a slight bitterness to finish. Nice ale
