Lovely hop aroma when fresh, taste is both the black and the IPA with neither outdoing each other. Sessionable but try drinking it real fresh.
Tap at Mash. Memory is a little muzzled on this one. I recall it being an all round solid black IPA. Some heavy ashy bitterness but drinkable stuff. ALLOVATE (3004) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2013

Cola brown and shimmering in the lights. Dense, compact and satin sheened, tannish head of foam holds the fort and laces well. Nose is initially smoky with burnt wood, tar and bitter, heavily roasted coffee bean coming through. Opens up to reveal hoppy nuances such as pine needles, stinging nettles, camphor and bitter herbs. Bold, unabashed hopping on the palate. Full, rounded and creamy in mouthfeel with a smoky, dark malt and charred wood finish. Herbaceous whole hop backend, as the aroma suggests, with a heady hit of pine-wood, grapefruit and stinging nettles melding beautifully with the roasted malt notes to finish it off in a peak of all things bitter and lovely. Long, long linger with everything working harmoniously. This is a grand BIPA that I’d vote to keep on their rotation permanently. Wonderful stuff.
On Tap at Five bar. Nice black pour with a solid off white head. Nose has tropical fruits, cocoa, coffee and a hint of smoke. Piney hop presence in the taste goes well with a 'mocha' bitterness which lingers. I like the roasted maltiness as the beer gets warmer really brings out a nice balanced bold flavour. Pretty good one of mashs better beers.
