A perfect balance of caramel and chocolate malts with Cascade hops makes this dark brown beer surprisingly smooth and easy drinking.

Drake (14038) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 26, 2014
Kentucky Fried Charleston Trip Beer #136. Draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin creamy head. Fair head retention. Aroma of chocolate and mild roasted malt. The taste is tart fruits, faint chocolate and roast. Thin-medium bodied.

Draught. Pours an almost black color with a moderate tan head. Nose and taste are both very roasty and with a lot of coffee notes. For something with such strong coffee in there, it’s very smooth. I really enjoyed this porter.

On tap. Brown pour with a thin tan top. Scent is roasted malts with caramel and chocolate notes. Taste is caramel and chocolate with a nice bitter finish.

On tap at Draft, Raleigh. Kind of a weird redundancy in the name. I found this to be a competent and fairly typical American porter, with a slight over-emphasis on roasted malts and a too-thin body to substantiate those bold flavors, along with the chocolate base. Decent enough but nothing I’d necessarily have again.

OldGrowth (3474) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - JUL 31, 2010
pint at Tribeca tavern. Good aroma, sweet. Roasted malt, chocolate, nutty, caramel. Orangy brown color, small head, good lace. Bitter sweet flavor, Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Tasty enough, classic porter, taste best part, came on strong as it warmed. nice chocolate caramel flavors...

Nice dark brown look. It lacks in the aroma department. But It has a Great roasted taste. Almost a coffee quality.

Elwood (3336) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 24, 2010
Serving: draft at the twisted fork in Raleigh. It pours a dark brown with a frothy, light tan head. The nose is nutty with a bit of roasted malt and caramel. The flavor is a bit roasty and dry with some caramel and earth notes. Light to medium in body leading to a diminishing roasty finish. Overall a fairly solid example of a porter, but lacking in body a bit.

Prometheus (160) - Bamberg, Bavaria, GERMANY - JUN 13, 2009

opaque brown, dry chocolate aroma, lots of chocolate flavor, touch of malt bitterness in the finish

solid brown, lasting fine tan head, rich chocolate and roasted flavor, a nice coffee character, good balancing hop flavor and a lasting bitter finish, a bit too much bitterness from the roasted creates a touch of astrengency in the finish
