September 2016 - Classy-looking 500ml clear plastic screwtop consumed in Berlin, as ’Maternus Gold’, 4.9%, BB Feb 2017. I note that the only other person drinking this beer is a guy under a blanket outside Aldi. It’s times like this that the words ’Premium Quality’ fill me with dread. Pours pale orange, clear, highly sparkling, dense foamy white head. Aroma is very airy, watery, light spice, faint sawdust. Body is frothy, light with tingly carbonation. Taste is watery, some biscuit, touch vegetal. No better or worse than any big brand macro lager. Quite clean tasting. Not offensive, just very bland. Overcarbonated to start, and improves when this dies down a bit. (2.2)
