Biggish white head quickly shrinks with a fizzing sound. Hazy opaque golden body. Fruity mealy aroma with earthy sugary pea notes. Sweet-acidic earthy fruity taste with mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild mouthfeel. Dryish-acidic unclean fruity mealy aftertaste. Yuk. This was awful. (0.33l bottle, from a shop in Sendai, Japan. Rerate, if possible.)

Bottle from an omiyage shop near Matsushima. Drank from the bottle. Clove, banana nose. Sweet with good zesty tartness on the finish. Pretty simple weizen but nice.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2016 Poured into a shaker showing opaque honey with no head. The nose shows a traditional weizen profile of banana and bubble gum. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of banana in the background and a moderate sweetness with a slight zest on the finish. A basic Hefeweizen that doesn’t stray from tradition.

Bottle from Kyoto Isetan. 5.5% served in a weizen glass it is a cloudy light gold with a decent foamy head. Spicy, cloves and buttery aroma - a warning sign? Light zesty mouthfeel, too watery. The taste is heavy spices and light butterscotch. Not bad minus that buttery quality this would be ok, it shows potential. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, 2011. Cloudy, murky orange-gold color with a foamy, fine head. Slightly acidic nose, creamy, with banana and wheat. Very tangy flavor with banana and lemon. Creamy and sweet. OK, but not so interesting or well-done.

250 mL can (thanks IslandHaole!): murky pale yellow. Diminishing ivory film. Wheaty grain and rye aromatics. Sweet, lemony-orange flavour with a good bit of peppery spice and a nice, long finish with strawberries and a lingering sourness. Tasty, indeed – I wish the can was a bit bigger!

Cloudy golden color with clovely bubblegum nose. Clovey banana body and a dry clovey finish. Simple, but it works for me.

Bottle. Hazy yellow. Very crisp, clean tasting. Wheaty, smooth mouthfeel. A very nice wheat beer, dry and smooth finish. Hints of peach, generally sweet.

IslandHaole (1250) - Misawa, JAPAN - NOV 21, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2004 An Amber/Orange color cloudy with sedimentation. A short-lived white head. Mild corriander & citrus in the nose. A crisp, tart weizen, rather surprising for a Japanese made beer. Some sweetness present but the tart flavor overwhelms any other.
