February 2018 - Tasting on L42, One Canada Square. Bottle shared with big thanks to Paul. As 'Matuška Stout'. Pours like novelty foam to form an opaque black beer (eventually), foamy brown head leaves light lacing. Aroma is earthy, dark chocolate, charcoal briquette, burnt paper. Body is frothy, airy, overcarbonated, almost without liquid character like I've sprayed foam in my mouth. Taste is a little ashy, dark chocolate, earthy, a little floral with a dry finish. Hmm. The body ruins this beer – it seems to have quite a full flavour underneath. Fizzy stouts are always a major fail (and yet all too prevalent). (7-3-6-1-12=2.9)

Bottle shared on Level 42, 05/02/2018. Many thanks! A clear mahogany brown coloured pour with a lively mid tan head. Aroma is nice earthy brown malts, dusty ashy roast, earthy chcoolate, Flavour is composed of nice bitter dark chocolate, earthy roast, dark chocolate, black berries. Lingering earthy ashy roast. Palate si very carboantion, high carboantion, abrasive, frothy, disappears.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Scopey. Pours deep brown with a billowing, foamy tan head. Modest cocoa in the nose, dry roast, milk chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavour her chocolate, some dark berries, burnt toast. Medium bodied with lively, massaging carbonation. Lightly drying in the finish, with touches of ash, more baking cocoa, raisins. Good stuff.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2018 Bottle at L42 - massive thanks to BenH. It pours jet black with a massive foamy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, cacao, cracked black pepper, ashy, charred wood, liquorice and rocky road. The taste is dry, bitter, charred wood, rich roasted malt, dirty, earthy, dark fruits, tar, drying, grainy and some harsh char with a drying finish. Medium body and high, foamy carbonation. A bit charred and burnt. High foamy carbonation ruins it a bit. Doesn’t meet the high expectations, but its alright.

Bottle split at L42, thanks to Ben H via Scopey, 05/02/18. Light black with a big old tan cap that retains well ... a lively pour. Nose is mellow roast, light metallic nip, dark fruit rinds, light cocoa, brown bread. Taste comprises tangy fruit rinds, bitter roast, ashen, spice, cocoa powder, toffee. Medium bodied, prickly/spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Passable stout ... way overcarbed and gassy ... kills the enjoyment for me. Genuine bad bottle or homered to fuck ? Carbonation aside the flavour profile didn't excite me much.

5Feb2018 Dark, roasted malts, burnt toast, cacao, charcoal, earthy. Hazy, very dark brown, massive, creamy, beige head. Medium bitter. More earthy, dark, burnt malts, burnt toast, cacao, ash, lively carbonation, medium bodied. Nah, this isn't right, maybe infected, substandard. Bottle shared at L42 - thanks to Scopey!

Éjfekete ital bézs színű habkoronával, küllemre kifogástalan. Illatra sem rossz, leginkább pörkölt malátás, kávés, étcsokoládés aromákkal operál, kevés hamus, faleveles szárazság érzetét is meg-megcsillantva. Mindezek ellenére lényegében hibátlan ital, a klasszikus vonalvezetésű stoutok jeles képviselője.

Bottle from Pezinská pivná pumpa. This is actually closer to sweet stout than traditional. Hazelnuts, chocolate little bit of coffee. More sweet than any other taste. Still I enjoyed.
