Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

$3.20 Bottle. Wine Warehouse. Charlottesville. Pours black with an inch of dark brown head. Smells of chocolates and an indiscernible spice. Tastes of chocolate, pepper, and more chocolate - both milk and dark.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2013 Almost black with a light brown head. Aroma of smoked chili peppers, anise, chocolate, and funky fruity yeast notes. Taste is woody with a little chocolate and full of chili pepper flavor without really being spicy. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated, and a touch dry. Everything about this is kind of mild, but there’s really no other complaint.

A truly unique and exceptionally fine tasting Stout from Maui Brew Co. It’s a Belgian Stout inspired by ancient Mayan culture. That means there is chocolate and spices added. An interesting combination from a Hawaiian brewery.

Pours a dark brown almost black color with tan head. Malt on the nose, a little cocoa but not much; follows onto the palate. Finishes with just a little heat from the chiles. Not their best offering.

ABUSEDGOAT (2729) - California, USA - JUL 29, 2013
Black pour, tan head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is roasty with notes of chocolate, caramel. Medium bodied, rich roasted flavor. A barrel aged imperial version of this would be fun.

12/26/2013. From can. Black with a beige head. Roasted malt aromas with spices and chocolate. Flavors are rich, bitter, but with some acidity that throws it off balance.

12 oz can from "Lifesource" Salem. $2.49 Wonderful looking beer poured into my PBR goblet!. Black as night with a thick tan head creamy goodness. Cocoa, burnt malts and caramel nose..pleasing. Taste is semi dark chocolate, slightly smokey, roasted nuts and oats and a faint hot pepper..excellent stuff. Great palate..keeps my taste buds tingling and guessing! I really liked this one. I have had only 2 beers from this brewer and loved them both. Must try more.

12oz can poured into glass. This was a very nice stout, and out of a can which I’m always jazzed about. Would have like more chilies and cinnamon spice though, it was just too subtle for me.
