COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

355mL can. $4. Pours darker, clear cola near black. Larger latte head formation with surprisingly weak retention dwindling to practically nothing in under a minute. Nose is suddy detergent, hints of tar and ash. Hints of smoked meat. Taste is bitter soil, ash, watery body. Weak palate.

Pour out of 12 oz can, dark black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought notes of lots of dark chocolate, spice, cinnamon, hints of slight chili, finishing fairly sweet, slight roast. Taste is a mix of spice, cinnamon, hints of roast, coffee notes, hints of dark chocolate, finishing sweet, slightly dry and bitter. Ok, the concept seemed better.

Black pour with a thin kahki head. Nose is a bit spicy and chocolaty--not spicy like heat, but like earthy cinnamon and herbal tones, with some raw cocao nibbs and a bit of roast. The flavor is a bit light but the body is mostly full, good roasted barley tones with a mild chocolaty sweetness, ending with a touch of earthy notes and some cinnamon. Not too keen on it overall, it’s chocolaty but earthy-bitter.

Bottle at Dean’s Birthday Tasting, August 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a glass hugging tan head. The aroma is creamy malt leading to a medium bitter flavour with some liqourice alcohol and citrus fruit on the watery but refreshing palate.

Can. Pours near black with a thin beige head. Medium roasted malts, dark chocolate, and faint hints of spices. Rich and fudgey, with hints of smoke as well. Good stuff.

12 ounce can. Pours a deep jet black color with a small beige head. A sweet nose of chocolate and some pepper. A nice flavor: some stout base here with roast and chocolate, light peppers, not really hot, vanilla, cinnamon, almost combines to taste a bit like pumpkin. Quite nice.

Tell me in a sentence, who you are?

Nobody, I’m nobody. I’m a tramp, a bum, a hobo. I’m a boxcar and a jug of wine - and a straight razor if you get too close to me

Can. Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown head and good lacing. Aroma is coffee, cigarettes, dark roasty malts, spices, cinnamon. Flavor is the same, with a touch of chili, but no real head. Light sweet, light bitter, light spicy finish. Medium body, bubbly carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Not bad, not amazing.

12oz can. Poured a dark black color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolates, dark malts, touch of dried fruits, pepper notes, cinnamon and a little cocoa. Flavor is roasted notes, malts, touch of light pepper heat in there, with cinnamon and a long lasting chocolate notes. Not nearly as enjoyable as I had hoped, but okay.

Draft at sb. Pours black with a loose creamy dark tan head. Mild sweet nose, mostly sweet milk chocolate. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Sweet smoky peppers show through the chocolate, cinnamon is dialed back. Interesting at a basic level, and easy to drink.
