12 ounce can into a brandy snifter thanks to errl. Pours a dark brown with a tan head of foam. Very good retention. Aroma has dark bitter chocolate, some smoke, ginger, licorice, toast, and leather. Taste is more on the dark, roasty, bitter side. Long, dry finish that leaves a roasty note on the tongue that shows no sign of leaving quickly. Earthy. Mahalo Doofgoblin. Thick black pour, dense tan foam. I’m not a fan of peppers in my beer, but this one works well. The spice is instantly evident, but not hot or heavy. Rather, it’s well integrated with the chocolate and smokey flavors that follow. A little sweet toasted malt in the finish. 355 ml can from Cotteridge Wines (I think). One of my favourite breweries. Here goes... jet black - no reddish tint here. Smells sweet but not sickly - kind of an oaty, sweet cereal, like flapjack or Golden Grahams (love them) but with some marzipan and Baileys as well - really great aroma. Smooth feel with slight fizz at the end. The taste could be fuller and longer lasting, which is a slight disappointment on an otherwise great experience, but there’s dark chocolate and mild coffee malt here. The best Hawaii-produced beer available. Had it on tap at SALT. Saw six-pack cans available at Whole Foods Kahala. As the only stout produced in the islands as I know it, I’ll admit that the Ba’kt’un only stands out in one way. While it doesn’t smell, look or feel like much, it tastes amazing. An absolutely beautiful dark chocolate pour with a big mocha head that leaves a perfect ring of lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate with the chipotle as a subtle undertone. The taste is dark chocolate with a little bit of a peppery kick in the finish. The flavor is slightly disappointing as I don’t detect any cinnamon but it’s pretty smooth at 7% and surprisingly drinkable! Pours a pitch black colour with a dark beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, strong smoked peppers, leather and lavender. Flavour of strong roasted malts, cherries, spices, smoked peppers, coffee, chocolate, mellow caramel sweetness and bitterness. Medium bodied, a bit thin mouthfeel and a very rich, dry, warming, malty and mellow finish. What a great complex stout without being overwhelming.
