Sample at Maui Brewing in Lahaina. Pours a thick brown with a thin beige head. Aroma has some dusty quality, aged fruit, mildly roasted with some spice. Flavour of candied sugar, raisins, dates, some spice. Wow! This is impressive and, again, may have gotten extra points for being such an unexpected treat in hot and humid Maui. Worth finding. Very well done, surpirsing choice of style considering the brewery is on a island some 10,000 miles away from Belgium! Like Trappiest Achel 8, very much in the hints of plum and ripe berries. Good malt balance - robust and delicious. pineypower (3327) - Ocean County, New Jersey, USA - OCT 13, 2006
They just tapped an 05 reserve when I was there....lucky me. Pours out a ruby hued brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is earthy with some notes of fruit and spice. There is an initial taste of apple with some cinamon and nutmeg. Finishes strong with alcohol. Very solid beer guess a year in a cellar did it good. Sampled at the brewery in beautiful Maui. Very tasty fruity flavors, like cherrires, raisins, and sweet plums. Nice brew.

Tap at brewery: Chestnut hue. Smooth, creamy-soft texture. Malts were earthy, sweet (Belgian candi sugar flavors), and sticky. Alcohol was big and warming. Aromas were pleasant. Delicate flowers, spices (clove), herbs and fruit (pear, banana and big cherry right in the finish). On the sweet end of the spectrum. Enjoyable beer. Dark red pour, tan head. Spicy and Belgian yeasty nose with a nice strong spice flavor. A damn good Belgian dark ale. fordest (2470) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - MAY 30, 2007
Draft at brewpub. Dark brown with a really nice head. Nice lacing too. Dark fruit aromas with roasty malled nose. Flavors were similar with a decent warming finish. Pretty good Vikingbrew (193) - Colorado, USA - OCT 6, 2010

Labeled "Father Damien’s..." at O’Brien’s. Hazy copper brown with no head. High sweet nose with a light hint of vinegar. Taste big thick and strong. More crafty, much better, than I expected.
