India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

355mL can, pours cloudy golden with big white head. Big stunning piney hops aroma, with citrus and floral notes. Flavour of soapy, piney hops, with floral notes, citrus and light sweetness. Very nicely made IPA.

12oz can pours a totally transparent, bright yellow gold with a frothy, clumping white head. Nose is pleasant, some mango, some citrus, light sweetness. Flavor is real solid, malty, sweet, crackers, lemon, lime. Medium bodied, dry finish. Good session beer.

12oz can pours clear copper with large off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, malt, and hops. Taste is similar to aroma very smooth creamy texture with a nice malt and honey backbone. Nice balanced IPA.

Nice hoppy aroma with a dark golden color. Doesnt have the usual ipa slick mouth feel. Taste is more bitter than hoppy. A bit to sweet for me. In a crowded room of IPAs doesn’t really standout.

The appearance and aroma of this brew was what stood out. Golden and clean with a great head. On the nose there’s the scent of freshly peeled oranges and tangerine. It wasn’t as bitter as I would have liked it to be. Flavors of citrus and pine are present but it didn’t have much of a finish.

In can; Clear gold with a white head when poured. Crispy hops aroma with scent of honey and flowers. The taste is quite bitter, and very, very hoppy. I almost got a cordial taste ... really didn’t enjoy this one at all.

Pale, honey amber pour, with a good-sized white head. Pine resin, mandarin and a bit o’ honey on the nose. Sharply bitter grassy flavor, balanced more with honey than caramel - this is a lighter one, and one I imagine I’d appreciate if I were on the beach. Full-bodied - not lacking anything - this is definitely good.

Braudog (6716) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - NOV 7, 2010
Draft at Yard House Honolulu. Amber color with a firm but average head. Moderate dry hop character, but not enough to stand up to a west coast drinker’s expectations. Drinkable enough, and at 6.2% one that could sneak up on you. (#4009, 11/2/2010)

decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - NOV 2, 2010
Gold with creamy white head and lace. Nice resin aroma. Sweet malt with a medium resiny bitter finish. Medium bodied but fizzy. Nice beer.
