India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

In can; Clear gold with a white head when poured. Crispy hops aroma with scent of honey and flowers. The taste is quite bitter, and very, very hoppy. I almost got a cordial taste ... really didn’t enjoy this one at all.

Pale, honey amber pour, with a good-sized white head. Pine resin, mandarin and a bit o’ honey on the nose. Sharply bitter grassy flavor, balanced more with honey than caramel - this is a lighter one, and one I imagine I’d appreciate if I were on the beach. Full-bodied - not lacking anything - this is definitely good.

Draft at Yard House Honolulu. Amber color with a firm but average head. Moderate dry hop character, but not enough to stand up to a west coast drinker’s expectations. Drinkable enough, and at 6.2% one that could sneak up on you. (#4009, 11/2/2010)

decaturstevo (6339) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - NOV 2, 2010
Gold with creamy white head and lace. Nice resin aroma. Sweet malt with a medium resiny bitter finish. Medium bodied but fizzy. Nice beer.

shockingly good. I had heard bad news about this one from someone who toured the brewery lately and I am glad to report that the its bad review was greatly exaggerated. I kept wondering where they got such great hops to make this drink- - do they grow them on the islands? Either way - stellar.

Just loving the Maui brewing co beers, after recently discovering this brand. Fantasic ipa, great flavor. Love the cans.

12 ounce can from Total Wine in Tustin ($2.49). Pours a murky orange-amber with two fingers of off-white foam. Mild aroma of fruity hops (citrus and pineapple). Flavor is hoppy with some nice tropical fruit (more pineapple but not very sweet) and a solid caramel-y malt backbone and a vegetable quality. Finish has a nice level of both sweetness and bitterness. Solid IPA. (295, 406)

A top tier IPA. Large amount of bitterness that doesn’t overwhelm the palate. Good sparkle to it. Pours a nice orange color.

Big Swell IPA pours a nice pale color with an extremely intense white head. The scent is of sweet hops, lemon and some light malt. There is a nice sweet malty and hoppy taste to it with some caramel.
