India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

12 oz. (thanks to Austin for bringing me one of these). Golden orange pour with a thick off-white head. Aroma of pine and tangerines. Good bitter hop flavor. Not too sweet but still nicely balanced. This is a very good IPA. It will not blow you away but it is very good.

Can. Pours clear amber, with a one-and-a-half finger, beige head, good and lasting lacing. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, toffee, and more floral hop notes. Medium body, zesty and medium dry. Flavor of bread with a little bit of toffee, pine resin, and hints of citrus and grass. Long lasting medium bitter finish.

A really nice, complex, malty IPA. Its backed up by a very English hop character. The aroma is a little lacking, but the palate is a playground of subtle flavours. Nice earthy bitterness with notes of marmalade, and sweet malts creating a comforting sensation. Not the US IPA I was expecting, but a very nice beer anyway.

Got it in a can. Light orange color with light head and good lacing. Very hop heavy nose. Very smooth almost sweet taste with floral undertones and a light hoppiness. Light beer with a surprising amount of depth in the body. A very nice surprise coming out of a can.

Can beer with amber color and a nice white head, aroma is floral and some citrus like orange or lime and sweety, maybe toffee or something. Flavor has a balanced bitterness and a dry finish.

Amber with an off white head. Aroma is a piney hop profile, light caramel, light alcohol, resin. Taste is light caramel, light hoppiness, faint alcohol, light fruit- seems more like a hoppy amber.

For being a Paciific IPA I was expecting a nod in the hop profile to the local PNW hops. That was not there. Also theres a heavier, creamier texture than is usual to the style. Some residual sweetness adds to the flaws. Still an enjoyable beer, just not quite meeting expectations - part of those were from me and part of thsoe stemming from the label as an IPA.
