India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

According to the bottom of the tin this was canned on 18th of May, almost seven months ago. But its still bright, fresh and very very hoppy. An IPA that comes out of a can so fresh and flavoursome should really convince more people drink from cans rather than bottles. And the beer itself; theres a really lovely malty softness rolling around under bright lemony aromas, and a delicious lingeringly mouth-watering hoppiness. Its a very good IPA; not best-in-class but Id happily drink it again and again. But for me one of the highlights is the very bright ochre colour of the ale; its vibrant and delightful to look at. I wonder if the retention of the bright pale ale colour might also be due to the tin?

[Can (12oz)] Pours a murky orange-copper with a large lasting frothy off-white head. Some lacing. Nice fruity and piney hop aroma. Flavours the same, fruity and hoppy, along with some bready malt in the back and a touch of alcohol. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good IPA.
