Sample at Maui Brewing in Lahaina. Poured a deep brown, almost black with faint head. Aroma was rich with smoky malt. Taste was deep and complex. Malt is wonderfully roasted and deep. Finished well. Really surprising how good this was. Drjohnrock (831) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 5, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 6, 2011 Draft at the brewpub on August 10, 2010. Opaque dark brown color, small tan head, rather strong aroma of malt with licorice notes, smooth malty flavor with interesting sweetness again suggesting licorice, as well as charcoal griled meats. The only downside to this brew is a slight chemical taste. Don’t know if this brew really fits into the schwarzbier camp but it’s certainly better than many workaday dark lagers. bu11zeye (13140) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JAN 11, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 26, 2011 (Draught) Pours a dark brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, grain, lactose, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, grain, subtle smoke, some baking cocoa, lactose, and raisins with a soft mouthfeel. BrotherGrendel (787) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 14, 2011
Draft. Dark brown with creamy head. Nose is crisp grains with hint of roast and grass. Flavor is roast, grains, and moderate hop bitterness and grassy hop flavor. Light body with medium carbonation. A dark, hoppy lager, easy drinking. Capa (3399) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - JAN 14, 2010
Very dark maybe black with a lighter than expected head. Smooth malty flavor with light roast and mid-range hopping. Like most of the specials at the brewpub this one was very easy drinking and solid overall, but maybe not spectacular. I’d get it again, though.

Smoky tobacco in this fresh pilsner. Some chocolate develops over time with big, dry smoke in the finish. yemenmocha (659) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - JAN 29, 2010
Enjoyed on tap, winter 2010. Served in pilsener style glass. Poured a beautiful black with a nougaty-chocolate nose that reminds me of Whoppers candy. Light roasty flavors are present on the palate and it is rather drinkable. Great accompaniment to some of their menu items. Vikingbrew (193) - Colorado, USA - OCT 7, 2010
Dark brown. Low-moderate white head. slight roast malt aroma. Very smooth dark malt toast flavor with moderate hops. crisp. light body. A great lager that should be canned for everyone to enjoy! danielcurtis81 (1519) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 27, 2011
Served on tap a Lahina Coolers. The appearance is a cola brown. A good amount of bubbles and a small light brown head. The flavors and aroma are caramel and light roast coffee. Almost a Baltic Porter profile at times with a bit of berry fruitiness. The mouth is medium bodied and well carbonated. A nice refreshing beer after a long day of work out on a boat. On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours with a near black body with a long lasting off-white head that leaves great lacing. Aromas are bready, grainy, mostly clean, light hops, some sulfur, grassy and a hint of fruit. Flavors are bready, a bit of burnt toast, sulfur, grainy. Light hops and a hint of cardboard (but not really in an oxidated way). Medium bodied, medium to lively carbonation. A nice beer with a good malt profile.
