COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit!

To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA (Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast. You won’t want to wait until October to try it, but oh it will be worth the wait!

Canned: unable to tell, all cans only partially labeled Nearly solid light orange colored ale with some patches of light cream foam. Smells of tropical fruit juice, biscuity malts, some hints of passionfruit and more malts. Tastes sweet, reminds me initially of very ripe papaya, then some grape and apple alongside a faintness of pineapple. Medium bodied with a velvet character and small carb. This is an interesting beer, very fruity, but I can’t really relate to the individual flavors - like being asked to describe persimmons or something... Serving type: can 12-14-2012

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting, thanks to Hayduke. It poured a clear copper color with no head. The aroma was tropical pineapple juice with a nice bready note. The taste was noticeable hop bitterness with a slightly sweet and fruity medium body. Nice.

10/24/2012. From can. Dark amber color with a white head. Fruity aromas with light malt and hops. Just tropical fruit with medium carbonation. The high alcohol never really shows, so be a bit careful :)

Had this in a can, once. I remember a very island fruited nose, hints of bread, and papaya. Flavor was almost exactly like the nose with a hint of tropical hop, some grass, and yeast with a tiny alcohol bite. Was pretty good, quite interesting.

This was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. I poured from the 12 oz can a copper color with a quick fading white head. Aroma is a earthy and of melon. Medium plus in body . Smooth in the mouth. The flavor is fruity, with melon and what I assume is the breadfruit. Finishes somewhat dry.

12 oz can. Pours a cloudy amber with full foamy head and lots of carbonation. Aromas of toasty creamy malts and melons. Smooth and full. Thick doughy flavors with hint of hops and grass. Interesting. Really creamy and thick.

12oz can from "Lifesource" in Salem. $2.49 Pours a hazy orange/gold small persistent creamy white head. Not much aroma to speak off but mainlly malty, toffee with some pitted fruitlike in the back. Taste is very much more fruity..mellow fruitiness balanced by nice caramel type malt..spicy/bitter in the end. Actually nice. Mouth feel is good and thick but also easily drinkable not much sigh of the high alc. Overall a nice enough beer.

Hazy amber beer, small white head. Palate is light and crisp and dry. Minerals. An unusual dry fruity flavour, slightly vegetal, which I guess is the breadfruit. Vague cactus and a touch of lime. A little sweeter fruit follows and shows a flash of orange. Minerally dry finish with an unusual fruity aftertaste. Off the beaten track but a tad dry.

Hazy ornage and golden coloured body with a bit of a light copper glow, all with a half centimetre tall ugly off-white head. Aroma of light fruit, a touch of malt and just about nothing else, perhaps some honey. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malt with a bit of yeast and a increasing bitter flavour that just persists and gets worse. Aftertaste shows a very bland flavour with some bitterness, a good dose of body (not sure where it comes from), a touch of yeast and perhaps the slightest bit of fruit. Overall, a pretty bad offering, perhaps one of the worst from Maui (but not DFH - there are way worse ones) yet. This isn’t really ready for public consumption, unless you want to alienate folks who love either/both breweries. I wish I didn’t take up room in my suitcase across the whole of the pacific and america for this. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Liquor Collection in Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii for US$3.50 on 10-December-2012 sampled at home in Washington (on the other end of this great land) on 20-September-2013.

Can from Craft Beer Base. Amber colour, very little lacing. Caramel and fruit aroma. Very original fruit flavour, never had breadfruit before. Tart and bitter aftertaste.
