Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit!

To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA (Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast. You won’t want to wait until October to try it, but oh it will be worth the wait!

Aroma of tropical fruit... Deep orange in color... Flavor is sweet and citrusy up front, sucrose on the palate, finishes with hints of citrus hops... Interesting tangy flavor... Definitely worth a try ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz can poured into my Dogfish Head signature glass. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium sized white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of overripe cantaloupe, mango and papaya, and Belgian yeast. Tastes of sour fruit, nuttiness I’m assuming from the papaya seeds, and this wierd tropical sour flavor that I’m figuring is the breadfruit. It also finishes slightly bitter. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with good carbonation and a dry finish. Overall this was a really good but odd tasting. Nice to see a Maui Brewing and Dogfish Head do a collaboration. Very Hawaiian influenced but I can taste the dogfish head yeast for sure. Too bad this is a one time thing. Should have forked out the money for a 6 pack while I still could oh well.

Pours a wonderful ruby orange color, with fine lacy head. Interesting aroma of rotting fruit, wet leather, and apricots (rather pleasant, actually). Tastes of pear, apricot, and fig. Not your average tasting beer, but definitely an awesome one to try. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: bread, cereal, toast, resin, floral, dough. Appearance: golden, orange, hazy, white foam head. Taste: light sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour. Palate: full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, lightly astringent finish. Overall: The breadfruit and papaya seeds give this beer a unique aroma and flavor. The hearty and satisfying quality is imparted by the the starchy breadfruit. The 8.2% alcohol content (by volume) is not noticeable at all. It is easy to drink and has a mild finish. This is a pleasant beer in every aspect, and instantly one of my favorites, especially in the fruit beer category. I could easily consume multiple servings.

12 Fl. Oz. Can. Pours clear amber nice white head and lots of lacing. Aroma is quite fruity, some malts and yeast, kind of earthy. Taste is also quite sweet and fruity some yeast there too and grain. Overall a good beer very balanced the 8.2 ABV is very well hidden making it a very drinkable brew. Nice...

Sweet and grassy aromas from a medium orange/yellow body with a soapy white head. Sweet tropical fruit flavors of guava, pineapple and banana (is that breadfruit?) which is balanced by a nice dry bitterness that I’m not sure is hops or alcohol (but it’s good). There’s a bit of lemon sourness and orange around the edges and it finishes with a sweet, creaminess. Tasty, interesting beer.

12 fl oz / 355mL can into a Blue Moon glass. Served cold. Aroma: Sour fruit. I’ve never had a breadfruit before, so I can’t say if this smells like one or not. It does smell good though. Appearance: Hazy burnt yellow. Foamy white head that lingers a little bit. Taste: Tart fruit. Sourish yeast. Pears! Pretty tart beer, if you’re into that. Palate: Medium body, longish finish. The 8.2% is hidden quite well, so watch out. Overall: Made me really want to go to Hawaii and try a breadfruit!!

KansaiBeerLvrs (5153) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 14, 2013
I picked it up for about 600 yen from Antenna America. 8.2% it pours a great gold color and has a tropical fruit aroma which is normal as it is made with breadfruit & papaya seeds. Golden ale, then papaya, a hint of nuttiness before finishing with a crisp bitterness. This beer would rock at the beach! A nice mildly fruity golden ale.

LtDan (1806) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Appearance: Pours a hazy amber tinted yellow gold. A white head quickly subsides to a thin film.

Aroma: Fruity Belgian nose. White grapes, ripe cantelope, banana.

Taste: Sweet toasty malt, spicy belgian like yeast. Peonounced Spicy euro hops. Citrus and ripe melon fruitiness between the malt and hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Dry prickly bubbles.

Overall: Very tasty, very drinkable for 8.2%, and the fruit pops out as it warms up.
