Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit!

To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA (Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast. You won’t want to wait until October to try it, but oh it will be worth the wait!

Golden amber color with white head. No lacing, very "clean" looking brew. Aroma slightly bready but seems sanitized. Taste is neutral to me not bad drinking however. Clean finish. I feel the aroma could be improved.

Draught at Plan 9 Alehouse. Pours clear orange with a small, frothy white head, short retention. Aroma is moderate sweet bready and doughy malt with cooked fruit. Flavor is moderate doughy and bready malt with cooked fruit and light bitterness and a medium sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Light sweetness. Pours golden with good head and lacing. Light on aroma like, uh, breadfruit. Hmmm. Tap at Savor.

Bomber bottle I got as a Christmas present, bought at the brewery about 1-2 months ago. Pours not golden but quite nice clear amber, steady foam head that stays and leaves beautiful lacings on the glass. Aroma is very malty, sweet breadcrumbs and a bit of booze, some slight spiciness which is difficult to place also there. Taste is also very malty indeed, thick bread, more like dough for black bread. Sour notes, sweetness and finish ends in deep spicy bitterness. Definitely malt-forward beer, fragrant bitterness. Very unique beer and I am definitely liking it.

Can at Craig’s. Pours golden amber, nose is orange, pineapple, taste is similar, juicy fruit.

THOUGHTS: An odd but likeable beer. At first sip it just sort of tasted like beer. Maybe a blonde, maybe an imperial pils or golden ale, maybe. And then the flavors start to develop and the best way I can describe they flavor is some odd tropical jelly spread on white toast. There were other little things but they all came together to make jelly on toast. It grew on me each time I had one. TECHNICAL: Drank 5/10/2013. Can. Poured a hazy, dark, golden yellow with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished but left good lacing. The aroma had moderate white bread, nutty and toasted malts, and golden cake; light to moderate earthy yeast; apple; pear; pineapple; tropical fruit and toasted nuts. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately acidic; while the finish was lightly acidic and moderately sweet and bitter. There was pineapple, other tropical fruit in a jelly, bread, toasted bread, nutty malts, toasted sunflower seeds, apple, and apple skin. The medium body was a little syrupy and somewhat oily and then a little dry with fizzy carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

"Collaboration with Dogfish Head. Tasted and smells more like the typical yeast and spiciness of a dogfish brew. Light bread, Papaya like fruitiness. Good, but not a standout."

Can. Pours a very hazy amber color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is definitely fruity, with some slight bread as well as an almost citrus-berry note. Taste is actually a little sour, and with a lot more bite to it than I expected. Not bad, but I’m not a fruit beer fan, really.

Breadfruit, peach, pear, papaya. A collaboration between Dogfish Head and Maui Brewing Co. 8.2% alcohol saves it.

UPDATED: OCT 4, 2014 Intriguing name but yucky beer. Expected more from Dogfish Head but its the usual disappointment from Maui Brewing. Thought it would be better and wish it was.

Wittales (884) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 17, 2014
Appearance was hazy orangish gold with diminishing off white fizzy 1/2 finger head, no lacing. Aromas are fruit abound with slight sweetness of malt, ting of alcohol. Taste are pear, grape juice, peach, apple, papaya, woody seeds, mineral bite with slight alcohol. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with meduim body, fruity average length mineralic finish. Fruity different brew, very creative.
