This red ale, brewed with Liliko’l and Michigan cherries is ruby red in color, tart and refershing in flavor. Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin Beer. Years later its a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer. Aloha, John Walsh.
Yes, Michigan and Hawai’i are connected. It should be obvious to you know, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries & Lilko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! - Ron Jeffries

Can at home. Poured a deep amber with little-to-no head. Cherries, tea, grain, corn, and bread in the aroma. Grain, cereal, watered-down fruit, light cherry, esters and bread ending very dry. Light mouthfeel high carbonation. Really boring, grainy, corn bitterness, lager-like and watered down. This beer was a real dissappoint for me and definitely a let down considering the two breweries involved. I hope the JP version is better.

Murky red brown pour with a thin quickly diminishing cream head. Aroma is tropical fruit, cherry, and wet wood. Taste has some tart cherry and some tea-like characteristics. Tartness comes out more as it sits. Pretty dry.

Muddy, almost opaque reddish-copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of lychee and other tropical fruit, cherry, bread and vegetable. Taste is unfortunately much weaker than I was hoping for. It’s fruity and slightly sweet with a very mild tartness. Medium bodied. Disappointing.

Can. Pours a deep reddish brown without much head. Aroma is overwhelmingly passion fruit. Taste is more less a passion fruit beer. The cherry adds a little sweetness and a bit of tartness, which is what stays on the tongue. Tastes like juicy juice as it fades away with a citrus burn on the throat.

Mediocre beer which surprised me. This collab should have killed It. Practically no nose appeal but it is aesthetically pleasing. Minor cherry hints, a tad bit your typical wheat beer enhanced by fruit.

Can: Weak dried leaves nose. Clear ochre, medium yellow head. Moderately tart persimmon and dried leaves flavor. Pleasant soft carbonation, refreshing. Not a hell of a lot going, but enjoyable.

can 7/26/12. bad ass label. nice looking beer...hazy auburn with a soft off white tannish head. it smells really fruity sweet....plums, cherries, caramel, alcohol and herbaceous notes. tastes like a fight in a can...spicy, herbaceous, peanut buttery yeast, tart fruit on the finish. it is rather unpleasant, confounding and difficult to finish.

This looked like a promising beer: a jolly pumpkin/maui collaboration with passion fruit and cherries in it? Served in a can? It sounds interesting enough to shell out 13$ on a 6 pack, which means as a parsimonious grad student, I am once again spending more on beer this week than food :( Unfortunately, the beer didn’t live up, and I don’t particularly look forward to drinking the other 4 I have left. For the price, I was expecting some yummy sour organisms in there. Instead, it’s a watery, lightly fruity cloudy brown wash with no head. Reminds me of a roggenbier I once had; not very exciting. Looks like iced tea. Smells like metallic grass with some passion fruit.. Tastes the same with a touch of fruit, watery. Bitter, metallic, lightly sour aftertaste. This is a beer to give to those I don’t particularly care for.

From tap at the Beachwood BBQ. Pours hazy orange to brown with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light phenolic. Sweet, toasted malty and mild citric. Smooth fruity and crisp hoppy. Bitter and light toasted into the finish.

Cloudy amber with a cream head. Nose is cherries, tart, fruit, and faintly sour. Nice palate, cherry, tart, heavy fruit, earth, and a smooth finish.
