This red ale, brewed with Liliko’l and Michigan cherries is ruby red in color, tart and refershing in flavor. Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin Beer. Years later its a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer. Aloha, John Walsh.
Yes, Michigan and Hawai’i are connected. It should be obvious to you know, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries & Lilko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! - Ron Jeffries

Beautiful hazy orange amber color. Yeasty, biscuity, passion fruit, cherry on aroma and taste. Mid-high carbonation and creamy. Decent just not really my cup of tea...too much yeast/biscuitiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The beer pours a hazy brownish-yellow color with a white head. Interestingly, the color varies from the top to bottom of the beer. The aroma has a lot of passion fruit in it, as well as a little bit of yeast and biscuit malt. The flavor is similar. I get some very light tartness from the passion fruit, as well as some nice cherry and toffee notes. There is some yeast notes in the flavor as well. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Light and lively on the tongue. Moderate fruit flavors with an odd, hard-to-define quality. Lesser yet still noticeable elements of wood and nuts and earth. Cherries are definitely evident, but they don’t dominate. Hop bitterness is mild. Refreshing beer. Not bad, but strange.

The pour is a hazed amber color with a finger of off-white head. A really interesting aroma. Toasted malt, cherries, chocolate, toffee, a touch of tropical fruit, and lightly herbal. The flavor is just as captivating. Cherries are definitely there, as is a lot of toasted malt and bread. Some sweet fruit notes, a hint of cocoa, and some yeast. Very interesting. After finishing it, I’m still not sure if I like it, though.

Can... Murky caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The bouquet is a fusion of milk chocolate, toasted nuts and caramel intermingled with less substantial notes of cherry, passionfruit and herbs. Full bodied and lightly creamy with soft carbonation. Well-balanced. Caramel and milk chocolate sweetness is equaled by earthy, woody bitterness. Super low acidity and, unlike the nose, I can find no fruit in the flavor. Finishes mildly bitter, lightly tangy and a touch dry.

Can courtesy of Max at a tasting at Paul’s. Pours a fairly heavily hazed amber with ruby highlights and a soft white head around the edges. Very light jammy fruit on the nose, a touch of nutty malt. Medium bodied, malt and a touch of toast. Sweet but then picks up a bit of roast and a hint of cocoa.

Quite disappointing. At first I had high expectations because I like the majority of Maui beers until I got this home and discovered it was a collaboration with Jolly Pumpkin. I can’t stand sours beers and I haven’t found one of theirs that was tolerable. No wonder why this was overpriced. I think it was about $6/can or something ridiculous. Pours out murky brown/copper water. Aroma is fuels and some acidic cherry. Flavor is bland burnt caramel and some cherry.

Can. Yes! The can ( aka the Crapper)is where this beer belongs! Colour...orange- amber with no head. Nose...faint fruit and spent grain. Palate... OMFG! This tastes like vomit that’s been grilled! End of review.

4oz pour looks like hazy grapefruit juice with some creamy white head. Nose is topical fruit , passion fruit, grapefruit, sttawberry, floral, fruit. Flavor is a little weak, light malt, light fruit, watered down acid. Light, watery finish.

Amber pour, white head. Aroma is grainy, very light fruits, lagerish yeast notes. Flavor is grainy, yeasty, not much going on with the fruit. Boring and a bit of a bummer.
