This Spring beer is a traditional bitter colour, its subtle malt flavour is complimented with a fine finish resulting from the use of Golding and Fuggles hops varieties.

May 2016 - Cask HP at The Green Man JDW, City, during the May 2016 job hunt. As Mauldons Cuckoo. Amber orange, clear, still, small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is bready, apple. Body is smooth, low carbonation. Taste is bready, apple peel, twiggy, sugary malt, honey, resinous finish. Basic. (3.0)

Hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons on 22nd June 2016. Like some others, I found this a little off. Looked fine, old gold/amber body, full, lasting head. Strange aroma, hops and maltiness within the nose but sulpher like esters too. Taste similar, decent enough blend but again something not quite right.

Handpull cask at the Townhouse, Ely. Honey brown and clear with a big white head and lots of lacing. Smells of apples, brass, rust. Tastes bitter with a fruity hint and some vinegar. Harsh almost acrid finish. Not all that pleasant, Id wonder if it was off but Ive never had an off beer from this pub so I think its just not very nice. I really, really struggled with this one.

Amber coloured ale with a thick head. It has a malt aroma with hops in its finish.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in May 2013. Cask, handpump dispense. Pump clip shows a cuckoo? but it looks like a blue version of Lichtensteins Oriole to me! Clear pale amber in colour with a thin white creamy head. Slight note of fruity lychees in the short floral aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a zesty fruit note of citric fruit with pink grapefruit and gooseberry dominant. Cereal flavour evident in the bitter hoppy aftertaste. Finish is tart with sweet notes fleeting. An ok summer session ale but I would stick with Black Adder!
