On tap. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate malt, charred malt. Flavor of sticky sweet malt, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, bitter chocolate. Sweet and chewy palate. Not much coffee unfortunately, but lots of vanilla notes. Pretty heavy hitting impy.

On draft at Cultivate. The pour is a lighter black with a thick light brown head that falls down to a film leaving a good lace. The aroma is interesting. There is a good coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt up front. I like the light roastiness and a hint of sweetness from the lactose. There is just a touch of vanilla, and that leaves a little to be desired. The flavor is much of the same. The roasted coffee and a sweet lactose and chocolate really take it from the top. There is a subtle bitter roast and just a kiss of vanilla to keep it interesting. The mouth feel is painfully thin and slick with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly bitter roasted maltnand coffee bean. It’s pretty good. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured black and oily with a medium sized foamy exceptionally dark brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was chocolate, bourbon, red wine, vanilla, black licorice and floral hops. The flavor was bitter and roasty with chocolate, coffee,vanilla, bourbon, black licorice and red wine. Long finish. Full bodied and creamy. Outstanding!

12 oz. bottle. Can’t remember if I got it at Root Cellar or Cappy’s. Anyway, it pours a deep, dark, nearly opaque brown with a very small tan head that never amounts to much more than a ring and a bit of film. Light lacing in the glass. The aroma is good, with vanilla, cocoa, coffee, tobacco, mellow roast, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Flavor of dark fruits - grapes, figs, dates, cherries - earth, rusted metal, dead leaves, vanilla, and cocoa. Hints of mellow roast coffee. Medium-bodied, with moderate to medium carbonation and a sweet, gritty, somewhat tangy mouthfeel. Disappointing. Seems a little off. SG111 (1927) - New York, USA - OCT 14, 2016

Lighter aroma for an imperial. Roasted nut malt and bitter shell scent. Thick black color and tan brown head. A touch of bitter hops and malts. Some sweet molasses. Tap
