COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available in pasteurised bottles and cans. Produced at Robinsons until Maxim opened their own brewery in 2007.
NOTE: The cask version has a separate entry.
Double Maxim is brewed using Maris Otter & Crystal Malts and English Golding Aroma Hops. It delivers a mouth of full and rounded flavour that is well balanced and smooth and leaves a pleasant and lingering and slightly sweet aftertaste.
Roger Protz described it as "an undoubted classic. It is a fine example of a North East brown ale. It is a good balance of ripe grain and spicy hops, with a long bittersweet finish."

Bottle from the Cooperative in Newbiggin by the Sea. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Good head. Nose - fudge and brown sugar. Sweet malt. Taste - more fudge and sweet malt. Palate - creamy and medium bodied. Sweet but fairly balanced on the finish. Overall - got better.

Copper/brown colour head that dissipates. Aroma is sweet caramel hint of fruit. Taste to follow caramel/toffee with a gentle fruity bitterness but overall on the sweeter side of things. Not bad at all

Bottle. Reddish-Brown in colour. Malty; medium-roast malts, slightly caramelly. Fruity; raisins, dark fruits. Hoppy; some hop bitterness. Sweetish fruity malty. Bittersweet dryish finish. Easy drinking. (2009-03)

Served in a snifter from a 500ml bottle. Pours garnet-brown colour with a thick creamy head. Aroma is malt, caramel, grass, bread. Taste is malt, caramel, red fruits, bitter-sweet with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. Very nice, clean and refreshing ale.

Bottle, gift from Dad- cheers! Brown with a thin white head. Brown sugar and nutty malt flavours are rather destroyed by a heavy dose of cardboard. Poor.

BeardedAvenger (1278) - Addlestone, Surrey, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2016
Bottle at home. Bought at Morrisons, Aldershot. Sweet malty aroma. Dark brown/chestnut. Blotchy off-white head. The thing that first srikes me about this is the wave of carbonation that rolls over the tongue. Otherwise the body is quite watery. Sweet, with a bitter finish. Nothing special. Too fizzy.

dxbrad (57) - West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 23, 2016
A north east classic, pours slightly red with foamy off white head. Less fizz than the the brown ale from neighbouring newcastle. Toffee sweetness, quite bready, a little floral. All good!

Butelka 500ml. Ciemnobrunatny kolor z rubinowym refleksem. Piana biala srednia opada bardzo szybko. Aromat slodowo-owocowy z karmelowym akcentem. Wodniste o plytkim smaku. Dominuja slody i palone cukry owoce i orzechy w tle. Nic wielkiego...
