COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maxwell Liqueur Mead is a unique drink made by fortifying mead with a specially selected spirit, adding a secret concoction of herbs and spices, and then the mead spends up to three years in oak barrels. This is a mead of unrivalled character; intensely aromatic with a rich and complex flavour, a unique after dinner liqueur. Serve at room temperature or over ice.

375ml bottle from Dan Murphy, Hurstville. 20% alc/vol. Orange gold colour, no head and aroma of spice & booze. Taste is honey, sweet, floral, fruity, earthy, spicy, grassy, alcohol, with some cinnamon notes. Smooth syrupy mouthfeel, thick bodied, low carbonation, warm boozy finish with lingering spice. Nicely sippable.

Bottle via dan Murphy’s Darker, golden orange color. Good ABV legs to this. Nose is cinnamon, orange peel, peach, apple, apple butter, spice, and oak Taste is orange blossom, peach, apple, apple butter, spices, cinnamon, oak, and honey. Maybe a touch too sweet and spiced. Good mead for a cold night.

2 oz. sample in a snifter at the International Mead Fest in Boulder, CO. Mead poured a clear, dark amber color. The aroma was full of warmth and comfort-food evoking notes: cognac, honey, and warm apple butter dominated. The flavor was heavily sweet, trace acidic and lightly bitter with a great, warm heavily bittersweet finish full of cinnamon retros. The body was full, the texture was creamy and there wasn’t any carbonation with a moderate amount of alcohol warmth. I’d definitley seek this one out on the shelf.
