Bottle: Deep ruby-amber coloured, smaller - but stable - off-white head with a little lace, not too dry chocolatey-toasty nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to meddium-bodied, smooth; coffee and cacao in the dry bitter-sweet finish. Really good... Grima (2394) - Merzkirchen, RLP, GERMANY - SEP 12, 2012

The beer in the glass is deep black with red tint in the back light. The off-white head disappears very quickly. The beer smells malty-roasty and chocolaty, subtle hoppy. Starts with lots of roasted malts and coffee, combined with a slightly bitter malt body and fruity-acidic flavors. The middle part is coffee-roasty, sourish-fruity and slightly chocolatey. The beer goes into a roasty, malty finish with lots of coffee and some chocolate!
Simple but good roasted aroma. Flavor is like an oatmeal stout, with the roasted flavor the dominant character.

(bottle) Clear, dark brown, almost black coloured hue with a beige and thick foamy head. Moderately roasted malty aroma with fruity and slightly zesty notes of ripe lemons/oranges, accompanied by traces of anise, leaves and mushrooms in the background. Bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Mildly roasted malt-character with subtle fruity notes and a touch of dark chocolate and mocha; dry mouthfeel, roasty and slightly hop bitter finish with a delicate malty sweetness in the aftertaste. Uncommon but not bad. 17.II.12 ganache (5956) - New Jersey, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Bottle 01.08.12. Nose is an oily, inky dark caramel, body pours ruby edging into black, very dark, with a light brown head. Taste is moderately sweet with strong hard roast, there are mocha and coffee undertones but it’s really more of a roasted grain thing. I know it’s not super sweet, but there elements here that sort of turn my mouth, and it’s tough to shake the impression that it’s much sweeter than it really is. Burnt notes long into the aftertaste, simple malt base and a crisp medium body. Meh.

Im Geruch malzschokoladig. Startet malzsüß. Dann etwas verdünnt, aber angenehm malzschokoladig und röstig. Ausgang dunkelmalzig, alsbald malzbitterer Nachhall. Ganz ok. Quack-Duck (9486) - Down South, GERMANY - FEB 5, 2012
bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear dark brown, almost black colour, large beige head. Malty with caramel and dry, roasted malt flavours, also quite a good amount of licorice in the flavour. Good. fiulijn (20806) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 9, 2011
2010-09-06, draught at the brewery restaurant, 5-4-5-2-11= 27
Dark color, almost black. If tasted blindfolded, it would have very little characteristics of a Schwarzbier: there is a very light caramel aroma, light caramel flavor and almost missing roasted malt flavor. Balanced and flawless, but also emotionless.

Dark color, frothy head; it look like a glass of cola. Light aroma, some wet cardboard. The flavor is mild, there is some dry caramel, quite on the dark side; the bad thing here is that it all ends with a sharp metallic finish. Drinkable but imperfect Dunkel (or Mild Schwarzbier).
