COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the British Empire expanded, English brewers added extra hops to keep beer fresh for increasingly long sea voyages. The beer on board the Mayflower shared this trait. Mayflower IPA puts a descendant’s twist on this style, with a powerful hop profile balanced by plenty of malt character. We use the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest to give this beer its distinct, piney flavor and delightful, fruity aroma.

12 ounce bottle from Nikki’s Liquors, Providence. Tiny bit of a gusher. Pours a hazy orange color with a large creamy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big caramel malts with floral hops. The taste is floral, minty and tropical hops with a caramel malt backbone and strong notes of candied citrus. Medium bodied, very slight lingering bitterness. Decent.

On tap. It pours a medium amber with a kind of bronze tone and a moderate head. On the nose the brief note of malts gives way to a floral hop character. The body is medium and has a creamy texture. The taste ends with a bountiful bitterness that is balance and non-distracting. Nice beer.

Draft at KJ’s in Newport, RI. Soft, creamy, with a few tastes of pine an citrus thrown into the mix. A favorite in Newport, I’m happy to have made friends with it before I had to leave.

Caramel, fruit, and some flowery hops in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and malty, with fruit, pine, and spicy hops in the finish. I love IPAs that start with a nice base beer and don’t overwhelm you with hops in the finish, and this certainly fits the bill.

On tap at Daves bar on post road in Warwick RI. Pour is deep amber with near flat top. Taste is more of a bitter hop than west coast fresh grapefruit hop. Good, simple and true to the style... Looking forward to trying more beers from the folks at mayflower.

Rich amber color with a copper-tinted white head that thins down. Strong citrusy hop aroma. Delicious and sweet but the hops stomp the sweetness with their bitter deliciousness. Holy shit, this beer is so good I can’t even think right.

Live close to the brewery so I get to enjoy regular fresh pints. One of my favorite IPAs to date. Not a hop contest winner, but wonderfully floral. Or as much as I’d care to enjoy.

Pint draft at British Beer Company in Falmouth, MA. It was fresh and hoppy, but not very distinctive.

Smooth for an IPA, but with nice hoppy kick. Not too sweet and it seems to have a high ABV.

Pours medium copper with medium white head and some lacing. Aroma is malt and floral, citrus hops. Flavor is quite hoppy with hints of citrus, floral, grass, malt, and grains. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and bitter finish. Pretty good IPA.
