Bottle - Deep amber or light brown colour with a reddish tint, large and stable off-white head. Rich malty nose with lot of fruitiness and some herbal hops. Taste is sweet with lot of fruitiness, some dried plum, dates, raisins, toffee, some breadcrust, low hop bitterness in the end. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, smooth texture, a bit boozy but still good. Nice belgian strong ale.

In mijn hoofd was dit geen lekker bier, droog, zuur en slap. Wellicht had ik toen een slechte fles. Net gehad op vat. Zacht zoet en droppig. Echt best wel lekker bier.

Dark brown and medium-bodied. Lightly sweet malty aroma and flavour with spicy and fruity notes. Moderately full taste with light sweetness and low bitterness. Overall, a good and tasty strong ale, but not as full as other beers of this style.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A bit disappointing, a good lacing pleasant beer but nothing special. Quite a strong metallic taste which I can’t quite get past. Many better examples.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle from Jumbo Costanera Center. Pours a dark copper, almost ruby color with a big light brown fizzy head that diminishes after a couple of minutes into a good lacing. Aroma is malty and spicy with good intensity: Notes of raisins, plums, prunes, brown sugar, some toffee, pepper and a touch of Jägermeister herbs. Interesting and fine. Taste is rich and complex with a nice sweet and spicy mixture. Well balanced. Hops barely discernible but there. Medium tartness compliments the sweet and spicy flavor. Nice. Medium body, alcohol well disguised. Carbonation is a bit thin. Overall this is a very nice, tasty and complex Belgian dark ale.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 mL bottle shared by ebone1988 at The Chouffe Party 2016. The pour is a medium brown, a little lighter around the edges, with a decent light cream colored head that remains as a film and thick bubbly collar. The aroma is pretty good. There is a lot of dark fruits present and a good bit of sweetness. There is a light candy, and a good malt profile. A metallic bit exists on the back end and I’m not really feeling it. It’s more like a crappy barleywine than a Belgian brown. The flavor is more malt and bitter. There is a heavy booziness and a strong wheat and malt. The dark fruits are lighter in presence, but the candy takes more hold. It’s a heavy flavor. The metallic is still present and it’s got a lingering bitterness. The alcohol is really sharp. The mouth feel is decent. There is a viscosity that’s nice and the carbonation is a little more effervescent than I’d like it to be. There is a lingeringly bitter metallic wheat and booze to finish this one out. It’s not too bad, but not quite what I was expecting that’s for sure. Drinkable, but not overly great
