Mc CHOUFFE is an unfiltered brown beer which is refermented both in the bottle and in barrels. Its fruity bouquet conceals a hint of bitterness.

(75 cl bottle at Delirium Cafe, Brussels)Shiny amber, great offwhite head. Malty aroma with vanilla and some spices. Quite mild malty flavor with vanilla, toffee and fruity notes. Quite a mild finish.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2006 Medium brown colour with a thick, billowy head. Aroma of yeast, wood, prunes, figs, toffee and bog myrtle. Spicy, yeasty tones overly a rich toffeeish, earthy maltiness. Sweet demerara and deglet noor finish. Sturdy alcoholic punch comes in late. Quality brew, and after 2 years in the cellar it emerges as a world classic.

Bottle. Dark brown with medium tan head. Flavour is malt, caramel, little sweet, yeast, fruit, little bitter, toffee and spices.

Bottled 0,75 ltr (BBE 2007)
Red-nut brown color, small steady beige head. Nose has alcohol, caramel, anise and light roasted malts. Liquerish, medium-bodied. Mouthfeel is a mix of carbonation (a bit too much, CO2 makes loud sound too :)) and alcohol. Flavor has yeast, sugar, malts, some fruits (raisins) and wood. Dry woody, slighly alcoholic aftertaste. Maybe not a pure "Scotch Ale", more like Belgium strong ale.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2009 Bottled. Brown beer with a beige head. Sweet and malty aroma. Warming, sweet and malty. Rating: 6-3-7-3-15-3.4. 051028

Bottle, 33cl. It’s a more or less clear beer, dark amber body topped by a beige, finger-thick head. Typical Belgo-sweet sugary nose with a good dash of alcohol and dried fruits. There’s roasted malts in there as well as a spiced note it seems. Sweet, malty flavor with dried fruits and roasted malts. A good alcohol warmth plays with my mouth and throat, and some bitterness lingers. Full-bodied and well carbonated. The finish is lasting and maybe a bit warm for this beer, but overall I really enjoy it. Well worth a revisit or two. 091102

If this is a scotch ale, I’m a dutchman. Deep orangy red, brief fizzy head. Winey grapey aroma, some apple and raisin. Fizzy palate, sweet and thin, almost watery. More yeast adds a bit of apple. Quite alcoholic for 8%. Sweet and a bit slushy.

Big gusher. Lovely perfumey aroma, with a slight berry bent. Red, small head. Extremely strawberry taste, but a swet slightly mashy aspect too. Fizzy palate. Shame about the huge gush, quite an interesting experiment.

Bottle at Cafe Buitenlust, Oirschot. Dark brown color, off-white head. Smell sweet, malts and yeast. Taste malts and sweet. Average carbo, medium body.

Hazy Amber with fine white head. Malty aroma and taste - nuts & dark fruits dominates. Sweetness. A bit "earthy". Little alcohol feel. Pleasant spicy hoppy finish. Good Belgium!

Bottle. Malty aroma, but a bit like flat lager. Nice dark chestnut colour, big semi-stable head. Flavour is OK malty, but with a rather weak/watery aftertaste. Nice, soft carbonation.

The aroma is something of a whisky malt, reminiscent of Adelscott. Very dark ripe fruit color with beige head that ringed rapidly. Medium body. Creamy carbonation. Flavor of ripe fruit, including some strawberry. It then moves to gritty malt, coffee, and some light bitter. The alcohol can be sensed. It’s absolutely delicious.
