"a rather weak brown ale aroma...otherwise a pretty solid porter accross the board. nice and smooth, nutty/chocolate/roasted malt flavor, decent finish. if only the aroma were up to par... 2nd time, aroma better, body weaker."

Poured from a growler (filled from tap). I filled my growlers at the Roseburg Station Pub then drove 1000 miles to San Diego and let the growlers spend a day in a hot car before refrigerating them. I recall these beers being better when I had them fresh on tap, so let that be my caution. Good, hearty porter aroma. Dark nutty brown coloration, not too thick. Middling head. Very pleasant porter flavor, with a dominant dark chocolate flavor. The flavor is just disappointingly weak, if you turned up the volume a few notches it would be really fantastic. As it stands, this is a good, everyday sort of beer.

Haha, Mike was the last to rate this before Craigers and I did. Pours a pure black color with a medium tan head. The aroma is mostly coffee, some roast. A smooth easy flavor, milky, chocolate malts, coffee. Very drinkable.

Definite chocolatey and roasty notes with a touch of caramel sweetness. Less astringent and bitter than their stout, however you can also sense a lighter body and lower alcohol. Flavor does not carry over as well as other porters. Good medium body and finish however the last example I had up in Mill Creek tasted a bit flat all around.

On tap. Visited more than one McMenamins and tasted more than one of thier brews. Unfortunately I do not remember the details so I am entering this primarily as a record of having tasted them. Hopefully I will make it back out to a McMenamins again someday and get better notes.
