A classic Northwest pale ale and McMenamins top selling beer. This rich chestnut colored gem is a model of harmony between hops and malted barley. Hammerhead's signature Cascade hop nose and intense hopped flavor blend nicely with the caramel tones from the crystal malt. This beer has a vocal following. To run out is an unforgivable sin. Draft, live at the Crystal Ballrooom location. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin rim of off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with distinct notes of hops, combined with caramel and hints of spices. The flavor is sweet malty with strong grassy and spicy hop notes, the spices include cinnamon, leading to a dry spicy and bitter finish.

Draught at White Eagle, Portland. Hazy reddish brown. Neutral aroma. Dryish with clean mouthfeel. Sharp resiny hops that linger on into the finish. Uninspired.

No significant aroma. Flat. Tastes like sour lemons with caramel color and flavor added. Two notches above a drainpour.

Draught at McMenamins Mill Creek, WA, 5.93% ABV
Hazy amber color. Easy Pale Ale, quite malty, with hints of citrusy hops, but spoiled by some diacetyl. Off-dry.

harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - NOV 4, 2006
On tap at The Ram Hotel, Portland. Cloudy amber with disappearing beige head. Ooh this is bad too. Some odd hop with caramel. Bit of fruit. This is bad.

I guess these days this beer wouldn’t seem quite as bold as it did when I first had it, but quality is quality nonetheless.

Slightly hazy amber color, small white head, lace. Piney, fruity hop aroma. Light to medium bodied. Slightly bready, piney flavor. Some sweetness from crystal malts. Decent APA.

brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - JUN 22, 2015
On tap @ McMenamins Barley Mill. Hazed amber colored beer with white foam. Just a bunch of cooked grain and toast. Some grass, straw, and burnt toast. Meh. The flavor is mildly bitter and grassy. A lot of bread, toast, and caramel. Odd estery quality. Not really a fan.
