A classic Northwest pale ale and McMenamins top selling beer. This rich chestnut colored gem is a model of harmony between hops and malted barley. Hammerhead's signature Cascade hop nose and intense hopped flavor blend nicely with the caramel tones from the crystal malt. This beer has a vocal following. To run out is an unforgivable sin. Malts: Pale Malt; Crystal Malt Hops: Cascades Specifications: Original Gravity: 1.056; Terminal Gravity: 1.010; Alcohol by Weight: 4.7% Calories/pint: 241

Oh my god... I love this beer. Everything about it is great except for the smell of my empty pint glass after I finished drinking it. I could drink hammerhead as water and be a happy man.

Malty smell and flavour. Amber color with minimal head. Nice tasting beer! (K)

Salem, Or - on tap at McMenamins Boon’s Treasury. Sparkling, medium copper pour, bone colored head, good lacing. Fresh light spruce aroma. Flavor has some light citrus notes that are akin to tangerines, some white grapes. Thick enough moutfheel.

i’ve tasted this many a times and pale ales are actually my favorite style, but this particular batch was underwhelming. almost had a wet blanket aftertaste.

From a can. Nice color nice aroma nice taste. Good ale but nothing special. Typical Portland beer. Lots of overhyped crafts in PDX.

Aquilo (654) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUL 12, 2016
Cloudy amber with a thin head and some lace. Malty aroma with a bit of lemon and lime. Mildly bitter flavor. Just a good drinkable ale with no frills.

Tap at Queen Anne location in Seattle. Copper pour. Some citrus, cardboard, foul herbal - this is bad.

penstemon (224) - Washington, USA - JAN 24, 2016
Pours golden amber with an off-white head. Aroma is a little earthy, classic pine and citrus, some maltiness, and slightly sweet grain. Taste is pine, catty, medium bitterness, slight caramel. Medium body, fizzy. Could pass for an IPA. Not an especially exciting one but pretty good.

Murky brown with off- white head. B-wine malty syrupy sweet aroma. Sticky sweet; tastes like it smells. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Oak Hills. A: Semi clear copper, thin white head. N: Light hops lend grapefruit, earth, and pine. There’s some mint in here. Cracker underneath. T: Bitter for the most part. Lightly sweet. M: Medium-light body, tickling carbonation, no alcohol. O: Mediocre pale ale. In the day of clean and hoppy, this doesn’t stack up. Needs to study Sierra Nevada.

Draft pour pint at the brand new McMenamins Anderson School. This is officially the first beer I’ve ever had at a school. Count it!! Pours a dark cloudy copper (I think.., its dark and in a plastic cup). Sweet caramel malt aroma with a short hop. Sweet matching flavor with a biting bitter finish. I’m very impressed with this place. Less with the beer, but not bad.
