Draft at McMenamins Tavern and Pool. Deep amber, near clear, with wispy foam. Diacetyl is strong, but it melds so well with the sweet malts as to become an appetizing butterscotch confection. Big caramel flavors fight for prominence against caproic and butyric undertones. Hard to figure out but likeable, a winter warmer that's not for everyone but unapologetically so.

Sampler in Eugene. Dark golden colour. Fruity flavours, fairly drinkable at least in a small dose. Overall, about average.

Too hoppy for me, but all the flavors are right.

Sampled at the University of Oregon campus location.

On tap at Oak Hills.

A: Cloudy brown color with a thin off-white head.

N: Citrusy with orange syrup, grapefruit, then pine, earth, and biscuit. Hint of bark.

T: Bitter and citrusy. Goodly sweet.

M: Medium body, foamy carbonation, light alcohol.

O: Santa would prefer this one of those that I tried today. Aggressive with a solid base.

Cloudy read pour, no head. Aroma is herby and for some reason reminds me of tomato juice. Taste is bitter, and the bitterness pretty much lingers all the way through.

ACHops (1665) - Seattle, Washington, USA - NOV 30, 2013
On tap @ White Eagle. Pours dark reddish amber with minimal head. Aroma is big rich caramel malt and a hint of spice. Taste is clean, lightly roasted caramel malt. Earthy, oaky undertones. Hops are minimal and let the malt shine. Spices are somewhat muddy and linger on the finish, allspice is the only one I can really pick out.

On tap at the always fun Imbre Hall. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head, some ruddiness to the appearance. The aroma is fresh fruity hops and spices. The flavor mirrors this with lots of hops and lighter spices, a medium malt balance with chocolate and pale malt. Pretty nice, very drinkable.

This is a pleasant seasonal winter ale. Not much on the hop front (below mild) which was boasted, but definite detection of bitter finish. Very light carbonation. Weak off white head. Ok malts

My choice of drink while watching Brave at the Kennedy School. Pours a hazy light brown. Partially Scottish and the rest winter ale. Malt focused with a slight cider taste.
