Tried the 2000 version, light color (I always expect a dark color in a holiday beer) wonderful aroma, the taste of spice with good friends on 23rd Street on Portland in December. What could be better? beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - NOV 27, 2004
UPDATED: JAN 3, 2005 Update: I tried this at the Broadway McMenamins and this beer was so much better. The spice really jumped out on this keg, lots of ginger bread tastes, cinnamon, and some sweeter malts upfront. I don’t know why the High St. Pub had such a bad batch of this.
On tap at the High St. Mcmenamins. Pours a dark mahogany red with a tall soft beige head. Aroma is very light malty, a bit toasty with just the faintest of spices, not really much there. Taste starts with just a quick nutty malt, then finishes with unbalanced bitterness, not very hoppy, just bitter, and a faint tartness. This brew was rather fruity, but very watery and unimpressive. highibus (823) - Vail, Arizona, USA - DEC 23, 2009
On tap at mill creek. Nice aroma of spice and hops. Great flavor too not too sweet but great maltiness. Finish is hops. Not bad at all. Best one I have had from them yet. chris2431 (241) - Oregon, USA - JAN 17, 2012
draft. pretty solid holiday special. darker amber in color. a little flat. smooth spicey and light hop bitterness. i’d order again. 944play (431) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 24, 2017
Draft at McMenamins Tavern and Pool. Deep amber, near clear, with wispy foam. Diacetyl is strong, but it melds so well with the sweet malts as to become an appetizing butterscotch confection. Big caramel flavors fight for prominence against caproic and butyric undertones. Hard to figure out but likeable, a winter warmer that's not for everyone but unapologetically so.

Ok pint at Thompsons Brewpub, Salem.
In appearance this is a nice hazy hazelnut brown beer, nice sized frothy off white head.
Subdued aroma..like many McM brews but what there is si slightly spicy ( ginger) and malts.
Creamy chocolaty smooth malt taste to start then the bitterness ..some hops some of it spices take over,,nice spicy aftertaste.
Very smooth and creamy on the palate a pleasure to drink.
Nice drinkable semi-light Christmas beer.

Draught. Poured deep red with thin white head. Aroma of spice and ginger. Gingery and peppery flavour. Lasting peppery finish. boFNjackson (4230) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 5, 2008
Tap... Poured a dark ruby with a thin head. Spicy malt aroma. Pretty mellow palate, pretty good combination of hops, malt and all the Christmas-sy spices that are in there, which makes you warm right up. You can really taste the Ginger and the alcohol is very subtle but it adds to that warmth. I’d have to say, this is more
impressive than I thought. WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 17, 2008
1/2/08 @ Old Saint Francis School in Bend, with Bikesandbeer and his Girlfriend Jesse. Lunch before driving to Sacramento via Mt. Shasta. 7th Brewery of the trip. Pours cloudy orange with a bright white ring. Nose is spiced. Taste is sweet and overall interesting. Getbetter (1033) - East Palo Alto, California, USA - DEC 11, 2010
