black with tan head. huge roasty, choco, anise and slightly smoky aroma. the flavour is good but not quite up tp the oomph of the aroma. finishes a little sweetr then goes dry and roasty. quite nice. OlJuntan64 (1265) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 14, 2003
Seriously opaque with a medium tan head. Interesting herbal medicinal and milk coffee aroma. Chocolatey smooth palate. I found the bitter strong harshish roasted malt a bit overpowering. Finish is bitter artificial. MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 11, 2003
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2007 Wondrous milky oatmeal aroma leading to dry vinous raisins of inebriation...Vestigious resinous hops are overpowered by the lengthy roasted malt finale as the palate is slowly numbed to lasciviousness...A pious representant of the dessert beer cult... argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 10, 2003
(WCC2003) Viscous black black with small brown head. Aroma is rich cofee, medium sweet, chocolate. Taste is coffee bitter, some sweet, some chocolate. Finish is muted chococoffee. Medium-full body, but watery. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 10, 2003
Deep black in colour. Aroma is nicely roasty with dark chocolate and malts. Flavour is weak, expecting more because of the aroma, just some mild smoke and coffee. Finishes dry.

(66o ml bottle) Opaque with no head. Potent charcoal nose. Slight mid-palate tartness, smokey. Somewhat dissapointing... chronictonic (472) - Oreland, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 10, 2003
Very big Oatmeal Stout. Thick, full flavor - maybe a bit too roasted though and lacking some of the creamieness that should be in an Oatmeal Stout. Very very good though - glad I have another bottle to taste later on. herbjones (742) - Orange, California, USA - JUL 25, 2003
Pitch black pour. Medium bodied. Roasted chocolatey flavor. A slight sourness to it.Slight vinous notes with a watery finish. JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUL 6, 2003
McNeill's Oatmeal Stout pours an opaque black color with no head. The flavors are a bit sour, lactic, with a touch of hops. The mouthfeel is creamy. The aroma is slightly roasty. JCW (1278) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 14, 2003
Bottle: Very little carbonation. Dark almost black. What head I could rough up was dark brown and settled to nothing. Rich creamy flavor with a lot of roast flavor. Well hopped and some what bitter, just the way I like it. Acidic on the finish. Very good stout. I knock it down a little bit, due almost total lack of carbonation.
