Bottle... Hazy, deep amber ale with a small, rocky head. Sticky, ink-blot lace. Aromas of brown sugar, caramel, butter (ringwood yeast?), light molasses and citrus fruit. Rich, malty sweet, toffee, grassy flavor. Medium-bodied and syrupy with medium carbonation. Lengthy, bitter-sweet finish. A little too sweet for me at the moment. Still, a quality brew. Bottle. Nose-tobacco, wet leaves, caramel malts. Brown body with a medium ring of bubbles and a thin film of bubbles. Taste-medium bitter, cheap watered down coffee, light malt vinegar, mint on the finish. DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2006
Turbid muddy brown pour, with aroma of heavy figgy fruit, cabernet, brown sugar, caramel malt, and rauchy notes. Tastes dense on the palate, with flavors of figgy fruit, cabernet, caramel malt, brown sugar. Smooth but thisone packs a punch toward the finish. peter (445) - Normal, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2006
A beer for cigar lovers. Nose is mostly tobacco and wet leaves. A honey appearance is set against a nice citric hoppiness. Walt (2449) - Austin, Texas, USA - DEC 13, 2006
Pours hazy reddish brown with a thin tan head...smell is walty and as notes of wet leaves...taste is sweet and malty turning quickly to a chemical bitterness...

(Bottle) Pours a dark amber body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of tobacco, earthiness, burnt caramel and light roastiness. Flavor of hops, malt, tabacco, and toffee. RollinHard (1024) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - DEC 6, 2006
Opens up very woody, with some tobacco and touches of pine in the aroma. Taste is similar, leaning heavily on the earthy qualities. Finishes mildly bitter and roasty. The "oldest" tasting old ale I’ve had. chef201atc (261) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - DEC 4, 2006
Cloudy brown pour with slight tan head. Nose is a bit sour. Flavor has some nice bitterness with an astringent finish. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - NOV 9, 2006
2nd favorite old ale in the old ale blind tasting. Brought by Clark. Thanks! Pours a slight haze deep ruby with a nice thin lasting head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel malts, nuts toasted nuts, some fruity esters and no oxidation- which was nice considering most others were loaded with it. A bit lighter in flavor than expected with notes of fruti, deep caramel malts, and a light chocolate malt nuttiness. Palate was a bit weak but had a decent afttertaste. Another thanks to Dave for sharing the bottle! Poured a hazy, deep ruby-caramel with a short layer of white head. Flat, herbal front to the aroma.. chocolate and dark fruity malts followed.. seemed to miss something in the middle. Toasty caramel, rum-soaked dark fruit, and woodiness in the flavor.. good elements, but again seemed to miss somewhere. Lower carbonation felt a bit flat... with herbal bitterness surrounding the palate. I really like Old Ales.. but this didn’t much do it for me.
